Marasim :episode 7 review

Since last week’s episodes it was obvious that Nayab and Zaid would have little choice against the wishes of their elders and more importantly the whims of Fate. A fatalist might say Daud and Nayab’s engagement/rishta was their taqdeer but every inch of the way towards that moment was a combination of decisions and choices made. If Nayab had stood tall and grabbed Zaid’s hand at that one moment, who would care about Daud, his money or his mother? However being a “good girl” Nayab is afraid to shame her sister in front of her in laws and can do nothing but faint, flopping to the floor like a fish out of water. I have never been overly impressed by cowards but I can understand …The plot must go on.MARASIM75

A large part of why I watch Marasim is the sharp editing and excellent direction by Owais Khan. Despite this being an expected sequence of events he manages to maintain the pace of the story and keep it compelling. Happily all the actors are keeping up too. Ahsan Khan always looks better to me in more serious roles and Daud is a perfect fit for him. Beychara Duad made no attempt to look at his new shareek e hayat at the engagement. Nice to see at least one wafadaar mard on screen no matter how misplaced the wafaa .So far Urwa is pretty convincing as Nayab especially when she refused to dress up for the engagement. The only person I am not too happy about is the guy playing Zaid who seems a little out of it.marasim

The interaction between Nayab and Almas was another highlight of the episode .First Gayti ara convinces Almas then Almas tries to play cruel to be kind with her sister. Each one of these women is trying to convince the other and perhaps themselves that MARSIM74really, their motives are not as selfish as they quite patently are. What a master stroke by Gaythi Ara to involve Imdad, Saba Hameed was again the star of the show : kabhi sakht , kabhi neem, Kabhi loha tho kabhi pani . Her whispered threat to beg Momina’s forgiveness immediately brings Daud back.maraSIM7

This serial has great direction, good acting and a beautiful, tightly written gheralu type script the masses love; I wonder if it had been on one of the supposedly more popular channels such as Geo or Ary if it would not have been a block buster.
