This was another moving and well-made episode of a Drama that keeps up a standard of excellence sadly missing in so many productions these days .The director, Owais Khan, has managed to elicit one of Ahsan Khan’s most memorable performances after Dastaan and Pani Jaisa Pyaar. In a simple, controlled but intensely emotional performance Ahsan Khan has brought home Daud’s painful journey of self-realization and death agonizingly close for the viewers of Marasim. In a final attempt to ruin Daud and Nayab’s new relationship, Gaythi Ara exposes Nayab’s previous relationship with Zaid. I fully expected Daud to react badly but there is no greater calming effect on a man’s soul than his imminent meeting with his creator so instead Daud actually begins to appreciate his much abused wife more rather than less.
Despite Daud’s suffering, Nayab and Momina suffering; I feel the greatest pity for Gaythi Ara. She is a blind woman; dazzled by the clothes and shiny marble house her son has bought her, unable to see her ultimate loss, her ultimate failure: that her mother in law has succeeded in ruining her life from beyond the grave. In one of my earlier reviews I mentioned that we often consider the training or ‘Tarbeeyat’ a mother gives to her daughter significant, but I have often seen that for young brides in particular, that their mother in laws treatment is the force which molds their outlook. In one heart wrenching scene after another Daud begs his mother to treat Nayab with respect .Setting the cancer diagnosis to one side, how many men in our culture have had to beg their wives /sisters/ mothers to put away their daggers and allow them to live their lives in peace? Saba Hamid is undoubtedly magnificent, Gaythi Ara is a common character in our soaps and serials but somehow I can never hate her. She does not realise how much she is hurting her son. Even Sheher Bano has succeeded where Gaythi Ara could not, by rising above her situation and maturing as a person. Her meeting with Daud was another highlight of this episode.
Urwa has certainly grown as a performer and has done remarkably well in this role . How does a simple girl from a poor background suddenly become a CEO ? well it is a little unbelievable but that is the power of good writing and direction …that it hardly seems to matter . Poor Nayab ,about to be dealt a double blow from Kismet . I really liked the breakfast scene between Nayab and Daud where he tells her not to be effected by the bad behaviour of others . If only someone had held Gaythi Ara’s hand like that .I almost wish it was an Indian drama where no one is allowed to die ;)
There were some wonderfully touching scene this episode and the most powerful was again between Saba Hamid and Ahsan Khan. Zanjabeel Asim’s fabulous dialogues set the tone for a sad truth evident in many mother and son relationships. No matter how hard Daud has tried he could never please his mother. This is why forgiving is always more powerful than revenge, why mercy always has a greater standing than justice. Allah alone can provide us with Adl which is always better than insaaf.
Another standing ovation for team Marasim this is a must watch for drama lovers !
