Maybe I am spoilt by the high standards set in the last 9 episodes but this week” Marasim was just not as engaging. Despite being an action packed episode with Zaid (finally) dying of a broken heart and the impending marriage (read fiasco) of Daud and Nayab, the shock value failed to materialise. If it had been any other serial , I would have pressed the fast forward button and moved on but for Marasim I just expect better.
My biggest disappointment is the Zaid track. I could understand if Zaid had some underlying illness which was exacerbated by his heartbreak but he looked too young and healthy to pine away in the space of a month. Each time he vomited blood, I thought “Allah ka shuker hai jaan chutti” but no, we were forced to sit through his ‘dum torna’ on Nayab’s final “qabul hai”. I can safely say that Nayab dodged a bullet there, what kind of man wills himself to death despite the desperate need of his sister and mother? That kind of thing works in a film but just like Sara’s death in Humsafar, it seemed like way more masala in what is already highly emotional story. The flashbacks were a little too inevitable. In other news: Urwa proves again how beautiful Pakistani actresses can look while crying. Can someone explain this?
I really wanted to feel sorry for Momina especially after Deeba (played with great relish by Sadia Faisal), keeps sticking the metaphorical knife in but she always manages some outrageous act of complete arrogance. The most gripping scenes had to be Momina’s final break down followed Daud’s confrontation with his mother . Ahsan Khan , Sonya Hussain and Saba Hamid are such talented, well matched actors . It is a pleasure to watch their scenes. It would be so easy to hate Daud for throwing Nayab out of his room on their wedding night but on the flip side at least he has some sense of fidelity even if it is misplaced.
Poor Nayab I felt sorry for her , she seems to be a plaything in everyone’s hands whether it is her mother in law or own sister. The look of pride on Gaythi Ara’s face as she explains how her son sacrificed his love for her is sheer hubris. She seems to be carrying on the tradition of cruelty and dominance her mother in law set . I think I mentioned in a previous review that we often hear complaints about a girls upbringing or Tarbeeyat from her Mayka but sometimes the in laws are the ones which shape and set a bride’s mind. It will be interesting to see if this cycle of abuse can be broken.
PS sorry it is late ..
