In her moment of weakness, Mannu reached out to the man responsible for putting her in this situation. If ever there was a weak man, Salahuddin surely deserves the title and then some! All is forgiven Asher- and all those other weak men we’ve seen in the past. Salahuddin has taken it to a whole new level. Not only did he arrange a match for his beloved, he’s following it up with daily bouts of beghairti by taking crap from Kooki and Jammy boy! Yes, even Jamil has more respect in the household than our Salahuddin. I suppose Mannu’s father’s tanneys of mardaangi are ringing true…
After getting the cold shoulder from Salahuddin, Mannu wastes no time in picking herself up and going for a makeover so she would be more appeasing to Mikael- her majaazi khuda. Mikael is a total lost cause- his parents were hoping that a girl like Mannu would manage to domesticate him but Mikael is not ready to budge. He has no interest in this marriage or Mannu and he’s mentioned divorce on multiple occasions. Mikael agrees to take Mannu to meet his friends but Mannu is a total misfit and Mikael comes home fuming mad at the embarrassment he had to face because Mannu comes across as a total paindu.
Mannu realizes it will take a lot more than just changing her wardrobe and hair so she radically tosses out every reminder of her past and sets out to become a clone of her husband- she takes on his mannerisms but little does Mannu know, Mikael is not the sort of man who will appreciate her. Her in- laws are deeply disappointed- they were hoping Mannu would magically transform their good-for-nothing son into a responsible family man. Why do parents feel they can exploit girls for the sake of their sons? Mannu’s family has completely disappeared from her life- so much for her being the apple of their eyes.
Salahuddin happens to come across Ifty’s father ( Talat Hussain) and he is appalled at how Jamil mistreats the helpless old man. Being a Good Samaritan, Salahuddin rushes to voice his concerns to Ifty hoping for some reaction but Ifty sees and hears only through the eyes and ears of Kooki and dismisses it. It’s sad to see how cold-hearted and blind Ifty really is and how easily he is manipulated by Kooki.
I think now that we’ve seen enough misery dished out to both the leads, we are eager to move forward. Mikael and Kooki’s scenes are becoming repetitive- we get it- they simply can’t stand to be around these two miserable people. What started out as a love story a la Sadaqay Tumharey, has quickly turned into yet another Zulm ki dastaan that we routinely see on our TV screens. I don’t know how many more episodes will be wasted showing these two helpless souls being victims of abuse. Today’s episode was boring- the preview was far more exciting but somehow the 40 odd minutes of sitting through it was quite painful. I don’t know if this is something I will watch till the end…
