Please.Just.Stop! Mann Mayal is getting on every last nerve. As a viewer, I’m discouraged from ever daring to tune in to another Samira Fazal disaster- we’ve recently seen Shukk, Chup Raho, Aitraaz… What is seriously going on here? Akhir yeh bechaari larkiyan itni desperate kyun hein??? I suppose one might try to make sense of Jeena’s desperation by taking into consideration that her biological clock is ticking so she must secure a man even one who clearly doesn’t want her around bringing him naashta or fixing his tie. Ayesha Khan should seriously reconsider taking up such petty roles.
Jamil is trying to knock some sense into Salahuddin every chance he gets but my biggest quip remains that I can’t relate their relationship- had he been a friend or a cousin, his words would carry some weight and I could understand the reasoning behind his advice. Not too long ago, Jamil was just another live-in servant at Ifty’s house who enjoyed gharelu politics. He’s now been elevated to the status of a second-in-command at Salahuddin’s business and home.
After last week’s cliffhanger, we saw Mojo Jojo aka Mikael thwarting attitude at his parents.. *yawn* been there, seen that… The aftermath of that encounter resulted in the death of both his parents and Mannu’s bechaargi quotient multiplied. Her family (yes the whole tabbar) finally decided for the sake of dunya daari to show up. For people who’ve chosen to turn a blind eye at their daughter’s plight, what were they expecting? Expecting se yaad aya, it’s been a while since Mannu sported a watermelon sized belly…
Jeena’s transformation to the mashriqi larki, her befriending Bia and sending over clothes for her baby, keeping track of Salahuddin’s eating schedule (maybe she secretly jots down his bowel movements too) are extremely forced. She can be the poster child for “How to lose a guy in ten days”. If Salahuddin had an iota of common sense, he’d catch the first flight outta there and stay away until she’s locked up in the cuckoo house. Someone like Jeena is an easy target for any man who’s looking to kill some time. I’m not seeking a role model, but is it too much to ask for a character to have some self respect?
And then we have Mannu- bechaari Mannu! Helpless, voiceless, brainless… The only time she musters courage is in front of Salahuddin to remind him of how he ruined her life. No, sweetheart, you’ve done a splendid job of ensuring you never get out of the misery surrounding you. Mikael doesn’t give a damn for his children or her or his parents or anyone so really, what’s keeping her in this suffocating marriage? What sort of a future does she envision for her children seeing how their father disregards them?
I think I’ve spent far too much time and energy on Mann Mayal for today… I need to go and pick an outfit for work tomorrow so eenie meenie miney moe…
