I may have to eat my own words and mention that Man Jali’s latest twist enables one to quite easily predict how the story will end in the near future. Likely, next episode 25 will be the finale.
Episode 24 starts with a leap of 3 years (wonder why, what were the script-writers trying to prove here?) to show Taimoor repenting in prison. Parents, Jalal and Fakhra Mizra are completely shattered as they try to come to terms with the grim end of a death sentence hovering over their only son. The dialogue, as usual is mesmerizing and ensnaring. The direction and editing are very smooth and hard to find any flaws there. I find that each character has been enacted with great finesse – Jalal and Fakhra the immensely adorable couple are completely unspoilt, even though they have an irresponsible, reckless son. Their grief is so deep and it is heart-wrenching to see them both languishing for their son.
Tooba is cold as ever. With the exception of Tooba, every other character has a clear profile and charter in Man Jali. She starts out as being very spirited, courageous enough to trample and world and straighten out every crookedness that comes in her way. However, a pity that the writers half-way through the story made her character very shallow, mute and utterly cold. Tooba’s character, indeed, is the weakest amongst all others.
Was Tooba in love with Ramis ? If she was, why did she hastily agree to marry Taimoor ? She could have easily waited for few more days ? If she was indifferent to Ramis, and married Taimoor of her own free will, then why did she just fade into the background. She seemed content to be a doormat in the Mirza household, although it was a very liberal household that accorded her every freedom.
It was like Tooba’s character was utterly confused or non-existent for several episodes. Why didn’t she stand up for her principles and beliefs ? Can’t fathom what the writers had in mind here. Moving on, in prison, Taimoor is shown to reminiscence over his wedding day, Tooba’s singing of the beautiful “Ankhiyon Ke Jharonkhon se” and Ramis’ late entrance.
Sweety, the key witness is keenly intent on Taimoor serving his death sentence and is not budging from changing her statement. Jalal and Fakhra leave no stone unturned and beseech her to reconsider. Sweety tells Fakhra that Taimoor, the serial killer was responsible for the mental (if not physical death) of several women before Annie, herself included.
This felt a bit exaggerated. After all, they were all adult women gifted with 20/20 vision and sight who willingly participated in their respective affairs – didn’t they have the good sense and discretion to know and recognize a rake ? It didn’t seem like it was forced on any of them. Jalal and Fakhra never denied their son being a rake, but brandishing him a serial killer felt overly melodramatic. Jalal and Fakhra ask Taimoor to claim responsibility for all their debts. They ask him to pay off the debt to Tooba, by releasing her with a divorce.
The preview shows Zareena briefing Wahab Ahmed (now how does his murder of the Maina go without any trial ??) about the good news of Tooba’s divorce. Tooba and Ramis having a silly dialogue over Ramis’ non-existent wife and Ramis’ admission that he stayed single.
Needless to say, the next episode will likely be the finale with Tooba marrying Ramis.
