Majboor houn mein, Mannu mera naam
Logon ko tangg karna mera kaam

Phir Bhi chayyn se reh nahin paoun
Sirf ek cheez, uraadey Meri neend

In Samira Fazal’s fantasy world, a single man in Karachi is so trustworthy that not one but two women are comfortably living in his house. Aur toh aur, his servant/ friend is equally trustworthy that he can be completely responsible for two young children and a desperate fiancée. This world is unlike the one we live in- it’s unthinkable for Salahuddin’s mother to leave Amreeka months after Bia has had her baby. Travel is an impossible feat- Mannu couldn’t manage to get on a plane by herself either; she needed Salahuddin to accompany her. Also, Mannu’s father’s heart attack means the whole tabbar will spend every waking moment at the hospital which is why they’re insisting she continues living with Salahuddin? Yeh kaun se duniya ke log hain? I love how Mannu is full of osool’s while living in her ex boyfriend’s home during her iddat. Why wouldn’t any man look up to a woman like Mannu with her ghairat intact and that classic PTV style white dupatta gracing her empty head? Last week, Salahuddin tried to attempt to fix Mannu’s marriage but ended up seeing her divorced. Bechaari Mannu.
And then we have Jeena who’s sole purpose in life is to marry a man who’s so obviously devoted to another woman and her children. Meem se Mannu, Meem se Maamoo, Meem se Mohabbat! Exactly what role Salahuddin plans on playing in their lives is anyone’s guess. Two’s company, three’s a crowd. But what about four? Next week’s promo hint at Jammy boy making his moves on Jeena! Bas iski hi kami reh gayi thi…
I recently came across a hashtag that seems so fitting #NoWomanEver. One of my favourites describes Salahuddin to the T- “In a world where women just want to be left alone, thousands of men with poor social skills will make them believe in love again” #NoWomenEver. Sadly, Mannu, despite pointing her finger at Salahuddin multiple times in a span of a few minutes, continues depending on him to bail her out of her misery. On the other hand, Jeena- the poor orphan girl with no one and no dignity either is yet another sorry representation of women in general. Why do our dramas bank on such insulting depictions of women, I fail to understand. Pakistan has no shortage of female role models- we are one of the few countries to have had a female Prime Minister for crying out loud! Surely there’s more to us then crying buckets of tears and wilting away in hopes of having a man come to our rescue.
