WARNING: Just so you know, there are spoilers in this post. Otherwise, enjoy! :)
Story Summary: Main Chaand Si is a story revolving around Irsa (Saba Qamar), Salaar (Sami Khan), and Farhan (Fahad Mustafa). Irsa thinks she extremely beautiful, hence the name, Main Chaand Si. She gets married to Salaar in hopes of money and riches. Later she realizes how conservative his family is, and rebels against burqa, dressing in eastern clothes, etc… Salaar’s family constantly hates her actions, and don’t accept her as a true bahu. Irsa’s family however, is more “modern” relating to acting pretty close with cousins, dancing at shadis, and all. At an engagement, Irsa dances with Farhan and a video is taken of her by her brother in law’s son and given to Salaar. Salaar gets mad and calls Irsa’s mom names. Irsa finds out and she refuses to go back home, causing Salaar to threaten Irsa on divorce over the phone.
Irsa realizes this could be a chance to get out of his house and her mom tells her to say she got the full and final divorce from Salaar. So, Irsa’s brother calls Salaar’s brother and tells him about the divorce and Salaar’s brother is shocked. His family sort of “shuns” him at the time and they go to a Moulana to see if it is a real divorce or not. They all get together, and Irsa takes out a “Quran” and takes a false oath in front of everyone saying that Salaar has given her “Talaak-e-salsa” over the phone. Here’s the twist: He never gave her divorce, and instead of it being a Quran she put her hand on, it’s really a book in the ghilaaf of a Quran. Salaar is claimed as “badnaam” and Irsa gets married to Farhan. Salaar in the meantime is married to Fatima (Sana Askari), a pious girl who Salaar gets annoyed of due to her devotion to religion. In the meantime, Irsa contracts HIV from Farhan which she had no clue of, and begins to hate him and threatens to expose him. Later realizing that she has HIV because of her deeds, she starts to go everywhere in a burqa in order for anyone not to see her ugly-ness. At her mother’s funeral, Salaar sees Irsa’s face only and is shocked to a point where he couldn’t believe that face belonged to Irsa. Irsa starts to devote herself to religion and prays and begs for forgiveness.
She later goes to Salaar and begs for forgiveness and Salaar couldn’t tell she had HIV. He goes to one of the doctors that Irsa and Farhan go to and finds out from there that she has HIV. He calls her later and they meet where Salaar tells her he has forgived her and asks if she really ever did love him. I love her dialogue here: Is sawaal ka jawab yehi hai. Quran may likha hai kay napaak mard kay liye napaak aurat hai aur napaak aurat key liye napaak mard hai. Aur paak mard kay liye paak aurat hai aur paak aurat kay liye paak mard hai. (Sorry if it’s not direct, it’s from the top of my head)
At the end, Salaar’s family is getting along and celebrating Fatima and Salaar’s child’s birthday. Farhan asks Irsa to drink poisoned milk and die so they could di together. I love the OST playing in the last scene and Irsa’s flashback of Salaar entering the room on their wedding night. They both drink it and die.
The Actors/Casting: I personally feel that Saba Qamar is an amazing actress. She can take any role and turn it into something magnificent. Her expressions are spot on, she puts the emotions in dialogues, and she kind of ‘becomes’ the character she plays. Sami Khan really surprised me in the last episode with his powerful dialogues and the way he portrayed them. Fahad Mustafa, as usual, was brilliant. He legitimately looked sick and was coughing and wheezing throughout his dialogues where needed. Everyone played their part wonderfully. The dadi and Salaar’s mom annoyed the crap out of me honestly. I couldn’t stand their scenes and always just skipped them. Sana Askari was amazing as the shy but outspoken Fatima, and she really surprised me in this role. Last thing that I wanted to mention was how beautifully the makeup was done. Irsa and Farhan looked like they were almost at death’s door honestly. The makeup was not overdone at all. Everything tied itself together wonderfully.
Sound and Picture Quality/Editing: A&B Productions really need to work on their sound and image. At times you didn’t really understand what the actors are saying and the picture got bad too. I also think they add some useless scenes in their dramas that serve no purpose. MCS had those too, but looking at it as a whole wasn’t THAT bad.
Conclusion: Awesome drama, awesome story, awesome casting! :)
