Lux Style Awards 2011 – Review of Winners in Drama Categories

As per the request of one of our readers, here is a brief review of this year’s Lux Style Awards – categories of dramas. First of all, I must strongly protest at the wardrobes of almost all the female attendees. There is something called grace and elegance, which was totally missing from the display of bare skin at this year’s awards. Now, on to the winners:

Best TV Serial (Satellite): Bol Meri Machli  (Geo TV)

What the heck? I have no words for this particular choice of winner in the face of such mega hits as Daam and Dastaan. Even Ijazat was more popular. Was this really the viewers’ choice? I have my doubts.

Best TV Actor (Satellite): Faisal Qureshi (Geo TV) – Meri Zaat Zara Benishan

Sorry folks, but this is so not on. The character of Arfeen was not demanding AT ALL! It was a pretty straightforward one, and I for one do not see what made Faisal Qureshi get an award for this one. I strongly feel Fawad Khan should have gotten it, or Faisal Qureshi for Haal-e-Dil where his role was more challenging as a blind poet.

Best TV Actress (Satellite): Bushra Ansari (Geo TV) – Dolly Ki Ayegi Baraat

I watched just one episode of DKAB and I was so disgusted I did not bother watching any more. Bushra Ansari is a seasoned actress and I really wonder WHY she agrees to do such silly roles. Samia Mumtaz and Sanam Baloch were much stronger contenders with more serious roles and I strongly feel either one of them should have gotten this award.

Best TV Director (All Channels): Haissam Husain – Daastan (HUM TV)

Finally, this was one award that made perfect sense. It was well-deserved all the way.

Best TV Writer (All Channels): Umera Ahmed – Meri Zaat Zara Benishan (Geo TV)

Somebody PLEASE tell me that if Umera could be nominated for MZZB, why couldn’t Samira Fazal/Razia Butt be jointly nominated for Dastaan? I didn’t see even ONE drama in this category that remotely even deserved an award, so Umera is only a logical choice.

Overall, the awards and the way they were all given to Geo TV dramas only makes me wonder if Lux and Geo struck a deal whereby all the satellite awards went to Geo and Geo, in turn, aired them for free! After watching so many dramas, you cannot blame me for cooking up this conspiracy theory.

Any picks for next year’s awards? To date, here are my choices as a viewer:

Best TV Serial (Satellite): Humsafar  (Hum TV)

Best TV Actor (Satellite): Fawwad Khan (ARY) – Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan

Best TV Actress (Satellite): I am still undecided about this one.

Best TV Director (All Channels): Sarmad Salman Khoosat – Humsafar (HUM TV)

Best TV Writer (All Channels): Samira Fazal – Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan (ARY)
