I don’t know why but ever since this drama has started, the week seems really, really long. Even today, time seemed to pass very slowly till 8:00 pm. But the wait was well worth it. The second episode of KPKPBT continued the saga that had begun last week; I, at least, stayed spellbound right till the end.
I had hoped for an ‘explosive’ entry of all the characters, and in this episode, Mikaal (Shimraiz) and Ayesha Khan (Daneez) did make an extremely dramatic entry. I just loved the way the scene was directed, with the backs of Shimraiz and Daneez showing, and Mujtaba (Fawad Khan) moving from one window to another to catch their conversation. At first, I was a little annoyed at the sound effects, but then realized that maybe it was part of the whole scene. After all, you cannot ‘catch’ a conversation so easily; you can only hear it in snippets – and so we did as well as Mujtaba.
The cultural shock that Mujtaba kept on receiving throughout the drama was so realistic I almost felt sorry for him; again, the direction was excellent as was the acting. The scene when Mujtaba calls his mother was heart-rending – it is very evident that he has begun to realize that these people are very ‘different’ and it will not be easy to live here.
The characterization of Samira Fazal has been excellent so far; we see the outward arrogant veneer of Daneez along with her vulnerable, insecure side. Mujtaba’s cockiness has seemed to disappeared completely; it is almost a shock to see him so apologetic, especially towards the end of the episode.
Overall, this was an excellent, well-paced episode that gave a very effective glimpse into the lives and relationships in the household of Taimoor along with a few shocks that are about to come Mujtaba’s way. I am now counting the days until next Friday already – and waiting for the entry of Sanam Baloch.
