So finally Koi Nahi Apna ends and it ends exactly the way we all predicted…Alvira finds out the truth and comes home. Surprise Surprise!! Ok now that I have that out of my system, on a serious note, even though the ending was completely predictable, I still liked it as I’m a sucker for happy endings. My only bone of contention (okay, not only but…) that Zaineb didn’t get a happy ending. Couldn’t she have gotten her son back some how?
All in all Koi Nahi Apna was not a bad serial. One of the best parts about it was that it was a complete family drama without any ‘awkward moments.’ It had comedy, intense scenes, negative characters, and of course ‘the other (wanna be) woman.’ But still it managed to stay a complete family drama so Sana Fahad gets credit for that. Apart from that she also gets credit for taking a recycled story and making it easy on us to understand. There weren’t any zaroorat se zyada jazbaati dialogues, nor was there an over dose of depressing dialogues when Hamza and Alvira were apart. It was all very real. Also one of the most touching scenes (aside from all the Hamza and Shiza scenes and I will talk about that next) was in episode 19. Zaineb finally tells us the story of her life and divorce…her story was heart wrenching to the point that I wanted to slap an imaginary character (complete credit to Salma Hassan for her performance), and Hamza’s reaction was just touching. He tells her that Ali is the loser and when Zaineb tells him he changed her negative perception of men, he very calmly put his hands on her forehead and told her that he will make the chai that night. Very simple, very touching, and very well shot and edited.
Acting wise, like always, everyone does complete justice to their characters, but this was entirely Fahad Mustafa’s serial after Alvira goes home with her parents. He owned all the episodes along with Badar Mehmood who directed them. In Humsafar when Asher finds out the truth about what actually happened with Khirad, he had an emotional breakdown and cried like it was real life, not reel life. I honestly didn’t think any other actor could have accomplished that. Fahad Mustafa blew Asher away (my sincere apologies to all Fawwad fans). Every single scene where he realizes he will lose Shiza was better than the one before. Every interaction he had with Shiza was as if he was talking to his real daughter. I was rendered speechless in the last 2 episodes. That Badar Mehmood could extract such a performance also deserves accolades. Please don’t get me wrong. all the actors did complete justice to their roles. Surwat Gilani’s performance where she confronts her parents in the last episode was brilliant. Sajid Hassan, Sabahat Bukhari, and Ismat Zaidi nailed their performances as the worst parents of the decade. Maheen Khalid played her part of the ‘almost’ other women very well. And last, but absolutely not the least, was the little girl Maryam (Shiza)…extremely talented and even more adorable, this girl is going places.
As I said before, the three things that have worked wonders for Koi Nahi Apna were flawless acting, flawless direction, and flawless editing! Oh and the OST, good job on picking that as the OST.
So all in all, well done team ‘Koi Nahi Apna!
