Khuda Mera Bhi Hai – Episode 4 Review

The episode we had all been waiting for finally hit our television screens on Saturday and left all of us in awe. The drama finally connected the dots where the trailer had left us hanging and it is definitely safe to say that as predicted, Khuda Mera Bhi Hai flaunts an exceptionally amazing plot and a powerful storyline. Aisha Khan throughout the episode nailed every single scene and made even those scenes which weren’t easy look effortlessly effective on screen.

What I loved most about this episode is that it explored the emotions of every single member of the family affected by the birth. They have finally brought to light one of the most tabooed topics of intersex children- something never brought to light before in history. The drama revolves around the strong, bold protagonist, Mahagul and her significant other, Zain. In Mahagul we see a modern woman who trusts her traditional values yet also knows what is regressive and stands against it with all her might. The birth of the first child is always the most special experience for a married couple and for their families as well. This episode was a rude reminder of the fact that having a child who is neither male nor female can turn this happy moment into a nightmare for the parents and their families. Mothers carry their babies within for nine months while fathers develop a bond after the baby arrives. My point being, it is a challenge for the mother to detach her baby from herself only because society won’t accept her child. The so called “educated” people of this society would rather accept a fatal birth than see a “hijra” being born in someone’s house. Mahagul is shown as someone who would take a stand for people who weren’t even related to her, she has won so many battles but this situation has set her aback since she never expected this to happen, I hope she realizes that she cannot give away her child and that she successfully persuades Zain to bring her child back. We are shown how indecisive and reluctant she actually was to hand over her baby to the Hijra Community.

I believe that the director did complete justice to all the scenes and kept the audience captivated through out the entire episode. I really love Syed Jibran’s acting but in this particular episode his presence wasn’t half as impressive as Ayesha Khan’s. Will Mahagul take a stand for her own child or will she be backed down by the society? Will the intersex child be brought up by the Hijra Community and not accept his/her own mother once he/she grows up? We’ll have to wait and watch. How many of you watched this latest episode? Do share your thoughts about it.
