Khuda dekh raha hai is yet another brilliant project of A-plus these days.It is written by Shezad Javed and Afifa Muhamamd and directed by Sabiha Sumair. What I like about this play is its unconventional subject that has never been brought into focus before. Hatsoff to the entire team of this play for bringing into limelight, one of the most rampant evil of our society. It is a shame that we manipulate religion for our own selfish interests. One such example is the excessive misuse of Istikhaara these days to predict future especially for marriage purposes.
The story revolves around a religious middle class household which is controlled by an overly dominating, so called religious woman who is considered an authority over istikhara by the ignorant women of her locality. This character is played by exceptionally talented Bushra Ansari. Despite all the restrictions, the daughter in the house , Zoya ( sajjal Ali) falls in love with a rock star Agha Ali who agrees to leave music and give up his flourishing career only to marry Zoya. On the other hand, Zoya’s brother for his own selfish motives wants her to marry his drunkard brother in law.
In the 7th episode, Moeez raises havoc in the house when Junaid Ali officially asks for Zoya’s hand in marriage. Moez leaves no stone unturned in assassinating his sister’s character in front of his parents. He persuades his mother to select his brother in law Adnan for Zoya as Junaid Ali is a singer and being religious, it is a sin to marry Zoya to the singer. He convinces his mother to tell Zoya and their father that she did istikhaara, and according to that Adnan is the best match for Zoya. Blinded by the love for her son, she agrees to manipulate religion to their advantage. Upon hearing that, Zoya instantly succumbs to her mother’s decision on the pretext that she cannot defy Istikhara’s result. However, Zoya’s father seriously doubt the validity of this istikhara and refuses to support his wife in this. Junaid, on the other hand who left everything for Zoya is still oblivious of Zoya’s compliance with her mother’s decision.
It is a brilliant play with a very unusual but a strong subject. The use of religion to our own advantage and sacrificing our daughters\’ wishes and dreams to please our sons is not something new in our society and I am sure that every other household can relate to this. I am glad that such subjects are being paid attention to.
All the actors have performed really well till now but for me Bushra Ansaari as Khalida stands out the most in this play. Sajjal Ali and Agha Ali are not doing something new. They have played such characters million times before, however, both of them have a very strong screen presence which cannot be ignored for sure and Oh yes, it has a brilliant soundtrack sung by Agha Ali himself and he has done full justice to it. If you are interested in watching a play with a strong and an important message , then it is a must watch for you.
