Uss kay dil main yeh khayal aaya bhi kaisay?
Within a space of a few seconds, with a few cutting remarks, Rukhsar placed a seal of endorsement upon the treatment meted out to her by her in-laws to be. So Adnan cannot even think of marriage before she is married off. Did she stop for a second and think these might be the exact same remarks that her fiance Zubair faces from his own sisters, whenever he brings up the subject of his marriage in his household? If Rukhsar cannot see her own brother married before she is, then oh dear, her fiance’s sisters cannot either. She is planning to make Adnan wait for an indefinite period, so why does she have problems waiting herself? For the past few episodes, I have felt for Rukhsar and the unfair custom in our society of not letting a man get married before his sisters, younger or elder. Today, I was only wondering: WhyRukhsar, why? Why and how exactly does a girl become an epitome of patience and sacrifice when it comes to her in-laws (to be) and express extreme narrow-mindedness when it comes to her own brother? Why couldn’t she be the first to break this tradition and one-up her in-laws in a positive manner?
For me, the latest, very-review worthy episode again had many, many parallels and comparisons. I have often complained about more-telling-than-showing and serials which drag without giving any sight into to the main characters. Here however, the story is very different. Yes, the pace is slow and the story did not progress much even in this installment. Yes, there were again severe issues with sound editing. However, the characterization made me stay glued to the laptop screen from the first scene to the last. I didn’t feel inclined to forward even a single scene.
Agar uss nay rishta bheja tou ammi abba forun haan kar dain gaye
For the most part, I enjoyed the portrayal of Adnan and Sikander’s contrasting personalities, and the way Kiran so aptly summed up the way her parents would be inclined towards a proposal sent by Sikander. Sikander seems to have it all, while Adnan is struggling. But then, Sikander exploits being the only child and emotionally blackmails his parents into taking a proposal for Kiran, while Adnan feels shamed by Rukhsar’s anger and tells his mother to give up the idea of taking Kiran’s proposal. Apart from this, there is also the fact that for Sikander, what HE wants is what he gets, regardless of how much it hurts his family. But Adnan does not insist on what he wants if it means it will hurt his only sister. So while Sikander seems uncompromising, relentless and self-centered, Adnan comes across as sacrficing and selfless. To cut some slack to Sikander, he does have a point that he had no idea what his mom and Khala were cooking up all these years, and they drummed ideas into Aarzoo’s head without him knowing anything about it.
Aap khawab dekhtay hein. Woh bhee jaagtay main
I have watched this scene countless times. It was HILARIOUS! Kiran shoots dagger after dagger at Sikander over the phone and he smoothly catches each one and acts as if nothing happened. It was an excellent, excellent scene and both Sanam Baloch and Fahd Mustafa did a very good job in it!
Main Sikander tou kiya, uss kay aaba o ajdad tak ko janta hoon
This was my second favourite scene in this episode. Although there was nothing extraordinary about it, I just loved the way it was directed and of course Hasan Niazi managed to carry the whole scene very convincing. The way the camera focuses on Adnan while Kiran is pouring out her woes spoke volumes about how terribly upset he was to hear of the whole Aarzoo-Sikander-Kiran fiasco, and he could, like Kiran, foresee that her parents will not say no to Sikander’s proposal.
I could probably go on and on, but I will apply the brakes here. All in all, it was a lovely, reflecting episode. From Faiqa’s efforts to get Kiran engaged to Adnan, to Sikander and Arzoo’s “coffee date” to Faiqa’s “ghar ka rishta” mantra (hah!) to Sikander’s father’s being the voice of reason to break the cold war between mother and son, it was definitely a must-watch. I had initially felt that this would be more of a filler episode with more talking, but I ended up enjoying it immensely. Two thumbs up to Aabis Raza, Umera Ahmed and the team!
