This episode brought grief and sorrow to Manaal\’s world. She lost her mother and her father couldn\’t come out of the shaddows of sadness. This much I was expecting after watching the first episode but what surprised me was Manaal\’s reaction to this situation. In the words of John Green “Grief does not change you…It reveals you.”
That is exactly what happened in Manaal\’s case, she didn\’t even know her own strength and the level of her own maturity. The sudden loss of her mother pushed her to grow up over night.
The very first scene where her mother\’s body was being taken to the graveyard, it was Mannal who was becoming her father\’s strength, where as it should have been the other way around. She was the one acting like an adult. Taking care of the house, dealing with the landlord, selling her earrings to take care of the finances. The carefree Mannal we met in the first episode swiftly changed into the responsible, mature beyond her years Manaal.
Karim was so heart broken and guilt-ridden by the death of his wife that he became completely oblivious to the world around him. He didn\’t even realize the kind of situation he was putting his daughter in. Yes, he had lost the love of his life but his poor daughter had lost her mother and what made it even worse was that due to Karim\’s somewhat selfish grieving process, she was denied the time and chance of mourning the loss of her mother. In such adverse circumstances, Manaal could have crumbled but she emerged as a fighter. Instead of giving in and becoming a victim of circumstances, she choose to face her problems. Faiza Iftikhar deserves a Thumbs Up for this episode alone.
Our TV screens are being flooded or should I say invaded by crying, wailing, helpless women, who love to shed tears every chance they get. Instead of standing on their own two feet and doing something to solve their problems they depend on the men in the dramas to come and rescue them. Manaal, thank God is a sensible young girl and so far she has proved that she has no desire to play the damsel in distress.
The story progressed to the point that we found out about Shabnam ( ZQ ). She is Karim\’s sister and due to some family problems her horrible in-laws do not allow her to meet her brother and his family. I am guessing the problem was Karim\’s refusal to marry Shabnam\’s vamp of a NAND. Shabnam came to meet her brother and his daughter in their hour of need. She was the one who finally talked some sense into her brother and made him realize how hard he was making life for Manaal. Here, I must commend ZQ for her choice of roles lately. We saw her in \” Mayray Humdum Mayray Doost \” in the role of a very modern, mature, graceful and sensible step mother and again in KKG she has played the role of a lower middle class woman with perfection. Her pulled back hair, just the right amount of makeup and her white chader all added to her character.
Attention was paid to the little details again in this episode. Manaal did not even change her dress in a number of scenes, the poor girl had no time to think of herself. Her father also truly looked grief stricken. ZQ played the part of a woman who loves her brother and his family but her life is being scrutinized by her very dominating inlaws very well. We saw really good performances from Yumna Zidi and Behroz Sabzwari.
Naila died of cancer and the irony is that her own father is financing an institute to fight cancer. Qavi Khan is playing the role of Naila\’s father. The rich man with a big heart, whose children might not be as generous as he is. We heard the name Diam being mentioned. I am guessing this is the character being played by Sami Khan. Let\’s wait till next week to see if I am right :)
Two episodes down and KKG is going really strong. I am hoping that this drama will not disappoint us and will maintain the same pace and quality that we have seen in these two episodes. So far, good work team KKG :)
