Kamyar is the Pakistani f-boy every girl wishes she had never met. Spoiled, avoidant, and proudly commitment-phobic, he is Bilal Abbas Khan’s boldest departure from the lover-boy roles that made him a fan favorite. Kamyar is the man your friends warned you about.

In ARY’s Meri Zindagi Hai Tu, Kamyar is wealthy, entitled, and untouchable in his own mind. Romance and sincerity? He doesn’t bother. He swipes through women in his free time, ridicules them for being predictable, and insists that his detachment is simply honesty. Taking over a business empire? Too much effort. Better to daydream about a crush while the world moves on without him. Responsibility is a foreign concept. Kamyar treats everyone around him, including his mother and closest friends, with utter disdain.

He openly says he can’t commit, yet he continues to flirt, entertain, and reel women in. It’s emotional bait-and-switch. Avoidance is his signature move. Kamyar blames circumstances, his parents, even social expectation for his mistakes. When conflict arises, he points the finger elsewhere.

Kamyar’s modus operandi is established in the drama’s first key scene. Nadir, another privileged young man, nearly causes an accident. Kamyar steps in, lands a punch, and sends Nadir to the emergency room. (Nadir is quite the light weight.) When it turns out Nadir is Ayra’s brother, Kamyar is intrigued by her spirited insults. Ayra slaps him, and suddenly he’s mesmerized. It’s the only language he seems to understand.

Meri Zindagi Hai Tu

What follows is a spiral into increasingly antagonistic, even criminal, territory: she vandalises his car, he burns hers.

His entitled brat behaviour quickly tips into obsessive, stalker territory. Kamyar is framed as compelling, even romantic. Like many toxic male leads before him, he is brooding, distant and ultimately forgiven. The Pakistani stalker is given a free pass. The sparks are already flying in Meri Zindagi Hai Tu.

Ayra, played by Hania Aamir, is positioned as his moral opposite. Principled and righteous, she confronts Kamyar. And yet, even she falters when she vandalizes Kamyar’s car in retaliation for her brother’s injuries. Is she the the ethical standard? In their interactions, both Ayra and Kamyar, are petulant and impulsive. Their childish antics make them both unlikable especially when compared to their relatively grounded family members. Adnan Jaffar as business tycoon and Kamyar’s father evokes sympathy as a man just trying to deal with his troublemaker son. Meanwhile Aly Khan is equally warm and dynamic as a doctor trying to maintain a functional family while Ayra ignores his warnings. I find myself wishing the drama was about the parents rather than these cranky, love-sick adolescents. Kamyar’s father is literally waiting for him in board meetings, ready to hand over entire businesses — and this man is out there chasing women, starting fires (literally), and spiraling through emotional theatrics. He’s a corporate heir who behaves like the rules of adulthood don’t apply to him.

Stalker with a heart of gold

Worst of all is the occasional scene where Kamyaar shows kindness toward his dadi. This half-hearted attempt to soften his image and justify his behaviour is misleading. This is the bare minimum not emotional complexity.

Kamyar’s version of the Pakistani f-boy is all charm, entitlement, and emotional manipulation. He wants what he wants, regardless of the consequences for other people.

How to spot a desi f-boy:

  • Emotionally manipulative: He flirts, teases, and love-bombs for his own pleasure

  • Commitment-phobic: He thrives on emotional games and the thrill of pursuit.

  • Entitled and privileged: Raised in comfort, he expects indulgence and deference without question.

  • Self-centered: His desires and whims dictate his actions; accountability is optional.

  • Performative charm: He wields charisma as a tool of manipulation.

  • Disrespectful boundaries: Emotional and social limits are ignored, rationalised as fate/chemistry.
