Disclaimer: I know Ghada has posted a few reviews on this drama, but I feel like starting from the start, so yeah! Enjoy! :)
So I’ve finally caught onto Kahi un Kahi, and I’m actually really loving it! The story is really kind of new, though some scenes may seem unrealistic at times. It’s a very engaging serial, that deals with social issues very nicely.
Kahi un Kahi is the story of technically three families, who all are affected by social classes in one way or another, some positively and some negatively. So to make this simpler to read, here is a list which is organized in a better way ;) :
1) The Kamals: Mr. Kamal is a man who seems to have had a rough past, and mostly tries to look ahead and take care of his business so much. He has been blessed with alot, which he belives has come from his hard work. He believes that people of the lower class shouldn’t be treated with too much respect, and he dislikes it if his sons try to talk to them/play with them. Mrs. Kamal, however, has a totally different mindset than her husband, and though she may not voice her opinion too loudly, she still knows how to get what she wants. She’s a very determined person, and uses that determination for the good. Generally, she’s a very sweet, open-minded person, and she just makes me really happy. They have two sons, Sherry and Ansar. Sherry grows up to go to college abroad, apparently forgetting his childhood, and Ansar grows up to be sort of a closed up person who has a strange, and I mean STRANGE, way of approaching people.
2) The Pervaizes: The Pervaizes are all the type of characters that make me want to slap them as soon as they come on screen. Mr. Pervaiz, however, is a bit more tolerable in my opinion. He knows that the fact that his children are so spoiled isn’t that great, and tries to do something about it, but Mrs. Pervaiz is the roadblock in the way. This lady. Just. Makes. Me. Want. To. UGHlkdjlds. Does that sum it up? No? She’s the type of lady who doesn’t know any manners, doesn’t want to teach her children manners, and is an overall arrogant type of woman. This trait carries on to her daughter, Anum. Such a little. Goodness, these characters are making me too mad, haha. And they have a son too. Oh, did I mention that he’s as disrespectful as the rest of his family? Yeah, parents these days…..<_<
3) Zoya and her Father: Finally, someone more positive to talk about. Zoya is the type of character who also gets what she wants, but voices her needs in a soft, yet determined way. She’s had a rough childhood, with being bullied and all that by the Pervaizes, and still continues to move on. Her father is the Kamals’s driver, and so they live in the servant quarter. For her social class, and her father’s job, she get’s put down alot during not only her childhood, but as she’s grown up too. She isn’t taken as “smart” just because she’s not rich. She’s actually much brighter and intelligent than the other kids, and she gets put down for that. It’s sort of ridiculous, actually. However, she’s still moving forward with life, and fulfilling her parent’s dreams on earning an education and becoming a doctor. (Question sort of related to and not really related to this review: why does every desi parent want their child to become a doctor when they grow up?) Anyways, she still knows how to deal with people, and I’m really loving her character, overall.
So Mrs. Kamal has always thought of Zoya as her daughter, and has nurtured her by getting her clothes like the kind she would do for her own daughter, and similar things to that. The Pervaizes obviously don’t approve of that, but Mr. Kamal has sort of grown with that overtime. He doesn’t mind Zoya as much anymore. He’s more of a neutral kind of person. Shukar hai, someone actually matured. Other than that, Ansar is a really strange kind of guy who gives off a creepy vibe. I don’t know, but his way of expressing his feelings for Zoya were really odd in my opinion.
Anyways, that’s most of what’s been going on in this drama for a while now. In the next episode, we’re going to be introduced to Sherry’s older version, who is played by Shehreyar Munawar! The other cast includes Aiza Khan, Urwa, Hassan Ahmad, Rashid Mehmood, Usman Peerzada, Seema Pasha, and others. It is directed by Asim Ali and written by Nadia Akhtar. I find the story to be really smooth-paced at times, and at times, sort of still and not much happening. Looking forward to writing more on Kahi un Kahi! :)
