One of latest serials on Geo is \” Kaanch Ki Gurya \” coming on Monday nights. Expectations were already high even before this serial went on air as this drama has been produced by a dream team comprosing of Faiza Iftikhar, Nadeem Siddique and has been made under the banner of A&B productions. As if that was not an impressive introduction, the cherry on top is the star cast. Lead roles are being played by Sami Khan and Yumna Zaidi and we will be seeing Behroz Sabzwari, Hina Bayat, Qavi Khan, ZQ, and Farah Shah in supporting roles.
The first installment went on air this Monday. The story revolves around \” Manaal \” a college girl who is made of \” sugar and spice and everything nice \” :). Well, maybe not spice but she is a genuine person, very sweet, kind, generous, innocent and a bit naive about the ways of the world. She has been brought up in a very protective environment. Although she belongs to a lower middle class family but her world is beautiful, as she is the apple of her parents\’ eye. They donot have monetary wealth but their lives are rich with the wealth of love they have for eachother. Her doting dad Karim ( Behroz Sabzwari ) and mother ( Hina Bayat ) love her immensely. But in spite of their unconditional love for Manaal, they have kept many secrets from her.
Manaal dosen\’t know that her mother Naila is a cancer patient and dosent have much time. She is also unaware of the fact that her parents\’ marriage was a typical love marriage, which did not receive the nod of approval from her nana. Naila left her father and his fortune behind and moved into Karim\’s home and his life. They love eachother like anything but Karim dosen\’t have enough financial resources to save Naila. He has spent all his life\’s savings on her treatment but knows too well, his efforts are not enough.
Naila is also haunted by her father\’s bud-dua. She knows she broke his heart when she went against his wishes to marry Karim and her father never forgave her for that. Now that she is on the verge of death, she is feeling more and more guilty.
Manaal accidently finds out about her mother\’s illness and is devastated and shocked. Her world is turned upside down, she is in utter state of shock as her mother passes away the very next day after her discovery.
The first episode was fast pace and was filled with some extremely emotional and very well delivered performances. The scenes between all three members of the family were superbly done and the chemistry this family shares with eachother is excellent. You can\’t help but feel for all the characters who are completely relatable and believable.
Attention has been paid to every little detail, the wardrobe, styling, home decor and make up was all done according to the demand of the story and keeping the characters in mind. Another strong point is the characterization, Faiza Iftikhar\’s dialogues will leave an impact. She has carved her characters with perfection, they are real people with very real problems. The direction is also a strong plus. All in all, the first episode has hit all the right notes.
Hope this team can maintain the same standards for the coming episodes as well.
