When I sat down to watch this episode, I had no idea I was gonna enjoy it so much. No, romance was not in the air nor were there any hilarious situations … it was a simple yet meaningful episode. Things are finally falling into place. Poetic justice has been served, everyone is now coming to terms with the latest developments and finally Joya mustered up enough courage to tell everyone the truth.
I want to give her credit for standing up for Manaal, for admitting her mistakes and apologizing but somehow I feel, she is not doing all this out of the goodness of her heart. Deep down, she is afraid … She believes she is being punished for what she did to Manaal and the rest of the family and the only reason she told the truth now, is to protect her own self from further retribution.
Before Joya spilled the beans, it was only Baila and Ahmed Sahab who believed Manal and Diam; no questions asked. Musarat and Moeed however did need to hear the truth from Joya, their reaction was as expected but I was surprised to see both Musarat and Moeed simply putting the entire blame on Joya and Rahat. It was their house, Manaal was primarily their responsibility but when Rahat was kicking her out, nobody tried to stop her, nobody even gave Manaal a chance to tell her side of the story and now they are not even accepting they had played any part in the entire matter.
Manaal is a kind person who cannot hold grudges but still I find it hard to believe that she was not angry with Joya, not even a little bit. It is only human to be angry, to want those who have harmed you to suffer but Manaal was not just willing to forgive and forget but was also trying to console Joya and even convincing Moeed to forgive her. I found that a little hard to digest. Diam forgiving everyone was easier to believe, he didn’t have to put up with anything, he simply disappeared from the crime scene, nobody got a chance to attack him like they attacked Manaal. He didn’t suffer, he just escaped.
Now coming to the most important point, while Musarat and Rahat were trying to show sympathy with Manaal and solving her marital problems, as expected their approach was orthodox and impractical. All they could think of was lecturing Shabnam on controlling her son, I mean hello…who do they think they are ? It was Shabnam who took care of Manaal when they themselves kicked her out, what gives them the right to take her to task ? Diam’s intervention was a breath of fresh air, he knows Shujat is beyond repair. So his idea was quite practical and shocking for the ladies in the family…he told Manaal she had the option to file for a divorce. It was at this point that Rahat Aunty realized there is a God after all aur Khuda ko yeah pasand Nahi hai , I wanted to literally pull my hair. What have these mother daughter done so far that was religious ? The only time she can think of God and religion is when she is making decisions on someone else’s behalf, that is just so Rahat.
Faiza Iftikhar deserves a lot of credit, Manaal knows she can’t live in an abusive relationship. Instead of repeating the same age old gissay pittay jumlay like ” Mayri qismat main yehi likha tha , ab wohi Mayra ghar hai ” etc , she made the sensible decision. It is frustrating to see most of the abused leading ladies waiting for a mis-carriage as a result of a beating from their husband to actually file for a divorce…to them as long as that doesn’t happen, it means there is still hope for their marriage. Thank God, Manaal has more sense than that, she knows when to say ENOUGH. Three cheers for Manaal for that reason alone.
Shujat’s reaction was not in expected. He is not mentally stable, one minute he doesn’t want to have anything to do with Manaal and the next he is outraged at receiving the divorce papers, only cause he wanted to do it first. He doesn’t want to give Manaal the satisfaction of getting her wish granted, he wants to have the last word…typical insecure attitude. Whether he will divorce her or not, that remains to be seen but I am glad we have some strong female characters who can hold their own. Shabnam took a stand for Manaal and she has been supporting her every step of the way. Things are not easy for her but she is a survivor and she doesn’t want her niece to suffer the same way as she has suffered her entire life in a bad marriage.
So with Diam’s return, things are looking up for the Shah family. Hopefully happy days will return to their home and we will be witnessing a happy ending soon.
