I must admit this drama caught my attention mainly through Aisha Khan’s dialogue in the promos: Aray oh nacheez! Tu hai kiya cheez? (I must commend Six Sigma for their excellent marketing of drama serials – even if the dramas themselves do not meet the expectations set by the initial promos).
Anyway, thus began Kaafir, which grew slowly in ratings and is now in the top ten every week. For the life of me, I do not understand WHY this drama had to be titled Kaafir. Honestly, I can think of a hundred thousand more creative names. Granted Shahan Ali Khan (played by Humayun Saeed) thinks he is above God, but really, would you ever go around in public, saying you watch a drama called “Kaafir”? A more catchier title would have been “Tu hai kiya cheez?” LOL
The main protagonist of the drama serial is Izzat, played by Aisha Khan. She is a strong, straightforward character, who understands the hard way the repercussions of hurting a male ego. Now she is about to find out how difficult it is to get justice in the world “ruled” by Shahan Ali Khan. I am intrigued to find out how she exactly exacts revenge for what happened to her. On the other side of the story is Sabreen Baloch, playing Mrs. Shahan Ali Khan, who has little or no idea about what her husband is up to.
Overall, the story is interesting – a bit different yes. There is an element of suspense, though the story takes its time to unravel. However, this drama clearly is for adults only. Once again, it highlights how production houses should label their dramas as such, especially if they have such sensitive issues as showed in this drama. Currently, there is no ratings system in place here in Pakistan, but I strongly urge production houses to use international standards for ratings and make sure they proclaim, loud and clear, that this is adults only. No children should watch this and parents need to be alert.
I am not exactly watching this serial back-to-back, as I am already following too many drama serials. However, I am watching the promos and the precaps, and a little bit of Aisha’s brilliant acting. Once she gets over her depression phase and goes back to her revengeful self, this drama will be hard to miss.
