With six episodes remaining, Jackson Heights is winding down and we see that happening from episode 18. Bechara Adnan (has to) leave Jackson Diner, but jaate jaate warns Michelle that “yeh aadmi eik din aapko aur Jackson Diner ko tabah ker dega.” Even Adnan can see through Jamshed!! But of course the smooth talker that he is, has an entire birthday surprised planned for Michelle, proposes to her, and obviously she says yes. He has the perfect line of ‘Mein hoon na.’ Rizwan is finally back in NY and I enjoyed how he refers to Jamshed as the mulazim (Jamshed clearly didn’t, but I absolutely did). He is [justifiably] shell-shocked upon learning that Jamshed is not just Jackson Diner’s new manager, but also Michele’s fiance. As ‘polite’ as Jamshed seems to be towards Rizwan, we can see how completely jealous and insecure he is of Rizwan and his presence. I love it! And I swear, Rizwan too is on to him. I hope he goes and talks to Adnan about what happened.
On Salma’s front, she is being stalked by Bhatti. When he sees what Sikander did to Salma, he takes Javed with and beats Sikander up. Okay, I clearly am not a fan of Bhatti, but watching Sikander get a dose of his own medicine did make me happy, a lot! By far, that was my favorite scene of this episode. But Salma is right, what now is the difference between him and Sikander? And does he realize what will happen to Salma now? Of course Sikander vows revenge. Bhatti also confesses his feelings for her even though Salma reminds him they are both married. To Bhatii’s question of ‘kya diya hai humein in shadiyon se?’ well you got to live in the US without fear of deportation.
The above got me thinking…all the strides Kathy Bhabi is making trying to woo her husband, is he not reciprocating because Salma is also a US citizen? Kaafi had tak sudhar gaeen hain Kathy Bhabi…as opposed as she used to be of Bhatti speaking Urdu, she herself is now speaking the language. She also spoke to ‘Ammi’ in Urdu and wants ‘re-connect’ with her because she is ‘family’ all of a sudden. Willing to sponsor her too. She is even willing to go to Pakistan. But Bhatti isn’t responding at all. He knows Salma is a US citizen and he knows her marital life has gone down the drain. All he has to do is be nice to Kathy until Salma gets a divorce. As soon as that happens, he can marry her and have the life here that he always wanted. I just can’t believe that Bhatti is doing all of this due to the goodness of his heart. This guys is a player and he is doing all the right things. No way he doesn’t know that if he beats up Sikander, life will get worse for Salma. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
All in all, another strong episode by Vasay and MJ. The entire cast, as always, does justice to their characters. It is great to see Adnan Jaffer back finally! Great job team Jackson heights!!
