Why are the men in this serial (with the exception of Rizwan) so full of themselves? You have Bhatti, who cares more about how ‘koi izzat nahi rahi meri us bachi ke saamne’ more than the fact Izzi didn’t come home the night before and her mother couldn’t care less. You have Jamshed, who is faking his love for Michele to stay here and when is initially rejected, calls Nani to tell her ‘baat nahi bani yahan pe…’ And last, but certainly not least, you have Sikander faking his love for Iman and Salma to get her zevar so he can pay off his gambling debts. He even has Tai Jee in on the sham. All three of them think they know exactly what they are doing and play the victim card to the tee! No one can say that Noman Ejaz, Adil Husain, or Ali Kazmi can’t act. These 3 make me so mad that when Michele was slapping Jamshed, I was wishing I could be the one doing so. Well done guys, well done! Its actually the first time I’m seeing Ali Kazmi in a serial and he is absolutely fabulous as the wife beating, conniving, and lazy to the core Sikander. And that extremely creepy smile at the end was pretty terrifying.
So in episode 13 things move along at a bit of a faster pace than previously, thank God. Jamshed confronts Michele about his ‘I need a greencard’ wali mohobbat (his conversation with Nani proves his intentions…‘baat na bani nani’), she slaps him, and has Adnan fire him. Madam Rizwan mein kya burai thi? He is actually sincere. She finally breaks down on the phone with Rizwan and he encourages her to stop listening to her brain and start listening to her heart. I know a lot of people are on Team, Jamshed, but I’m on team Rizwan! Waise this story is going to take a catastrophic turn for Michele when she finds out that Jamshed too was just using her. Bechari Michele!
On the Sikander and Salma front, Sikander has started sucking up to Salma by making breakfast, going to Iman’s school, getting Tai Jee on board to do the dishes and make biryani…per Salma is Salma…even Iman finds all of this strange, but not Salma…she thinks its for real. Really? 12 years of this crap (of which 6 years he spent in and out of jail) and you still don’t get it? Or perhaps she knows it but this time is pretending that’s not the case. Also, how much zever can Salma possibly have for Iman’s 4-5 year college tuition, that too in the NY? When they have their ‘family time’ in the park, and Salma runs off to see Bhatti, why doesn’t she just explain to him that she is there with her husband and daughter? Kya farq parna tha?
Bhatti and Kathy are beyond my understanding. Why did they get married? Theek hai, he did for a green card, but why did she get married to him? There is absolutely no love loss. Also, most American parents would freak out if their 16 year old daughter did not come home a night. How does a mother like Kathy, who kicked Jamshed out of the house when she thought he was in Izzi’s bedroom, not go over the top when she hears her daughter didn’t come home at night? We see in promos for next week that she catches Bhatti and Salma in a cafe. Lets see kya hota hai.
All in all, a fast paced episode and looks like the story is finally moving forward. Acting wise, everyone was great and MJ does a great job extracting performances from the cast, especially Ali Kazmi and Amina Sheikh.
