What started off as a really good watch has been reduced to yet another abuse based show. Initially we were very excited for this show as the characterization was done very well, the dialogues were good and overall it was a light romantic drama to watch on a Thursday night. The story has been completely ruined, the characters have changed so much I can\’t even recognize them anymore and as the other dramas rely on \” violence against women \” to get higher TRPs, this drama has skipped the beatings, tears and emotional abuse and has moved on to rape.
I can\’t even express how hard it was to sit through this episode, throughout I kept on trying to convince myself that the writer cannot simply ruin something that started off so well, so no matter how bad things get, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I was wrong, the episode was sickening.
From the first episode of IP, we were given the idea that the story dealt with the children who come from broken homes, it will highlight their problems, the stereotypes they have to face in society. Hamza\’s character had so much potential, the story had so much potential but alas. In the race for higher ratings, they simply destroyed the basic concept of the drama and turned Humza into a monster. The issue of children from broken families is no longer there, Humza\’s grey character has been changed to the darkest shade of black and there is no redeeming factor whatsoever.
Zohaib initially came across as a mature, responsible and sensible man but lately all his decisions are in complete contrast with his character; hasty and not well thought out. Dua stayed quiet throughout the Humza-Arsal rishta process, totally unlike a girl who on her wedding nigh told her husband everything about her past. Even after Humza made no attempt to hide his intentions. Pasha Sahab has a reputation for being out-spoken and blunt but even after finding out about Hamza and his intentions, he also decided to stay quiet.
There is this trend of glamorizing domestic abuse to get TRPs but I guess that is outdated now, now it has been replaced by rape. I am not saying do not discuss this issue, pretend it never happens, I am saying this is an extremely sensitive issue and should be handled very carefully and only be introduced in a drama if it has got anything to do with the story. In this drama, it was totally uncalled for, Humza was an angry young man with issues but he was not a psycho, they did not have to turn him into a monster. What makes matters worse for me, is from now on Dua is gonna stay quiet about this and will keep on living in the same house with her rapist. Is that even necessary for the progression of the story ?
There was no need for yer another drama based on another twisted story, after Dua-Humza track was over, Humza could have truly moved on. He could have met Arsala by accident and have truly fallen in love with her. The twist in the story could have been the tension that arose when Dua finds out about who Arsala\’s love interest was and she should have voiced her concerns about Hamza\’s past and his intentions towards Arsala ( being honest and open about everything ). How Zohaib reacted in that situation, how it was handled ( in a normal, sensible manner ) could have been interesting but it\’s too late for that.
Like I said, what initially attracted me about this drama was the innocence of the characters and the simplicity of the storyline. We already have too many shows that have a lot of Rona dhona, violence and abuse, so for me this drama was something I enjoyed because it left you with a smile on your face. But after watching tonight\’s episode, I can safely say this is my last review of this drama. I cannot sit through another episode as I have zero tolerance level for perverts and rapists and dramas that tell rape victims to Chup Raho.
