Humsafar – Episodes 5 and 6

OK, call me a party pooper but I am really getting a little bugged by Hamsafar now. I mean, what IS going on? Why do we see more interaction between Sarah (Navin Waqar) and Ashar (Fawwad Khan) than we see between Khirad (Mahira Khan) and Ashar? Why are Khirad-Ashar scenes so short? Why does it seem that Ashar and Khirad’s story is rushing on?

Phew! That felt good!

To recap, the last two episodes of Humsafar marked the beginning of Ashar and Khirad’s romance. It all started when Ashar overheard the conversation between Khirad and his dad, Baseerat Hussain (Behroze Sabzwari). Sarah had given him the impression that Khirad ought to perceive herself as the luckiest woman alive, and it turned out Khirad was just as uncomfortable in this marriage as he was. It seemed to soften him towards Khirad and now, the romance seems to be blossoming in their relationship – with Sarah as the evil witch who wants to create trouble between them.

In the past two episodes, the Ashar-Sarah scenes have really been too long and too irritating. Drama queen, I found myself uttering throughout most of today’s and last week’s episode. And, interestingly, Khirad-Ashar scenes are not only clipped, they seem to be rushed as well. I understand Khirad is not supposed to speak too much, but really, I wanted to see more ‘interaction’ at least in the ice cream parlour – and how come she got chocolate icecream when she had asked for strawberry and she didn’t say anything?

I, however, must give credit where it is due, and this is to the scene where Ashar is playing chess with his father and Khirad helps him with a critical move. The scene was excellently directed, and I am sure all the viewers must have gone: “Awwww!” However, I was a bit surprised to see this ‘hanging in the air’. Ashar could have at least asked Khirad how she knew chess so well. Did he just take it for granted that she was familiar with it?

Overall, the story is going great and I am really enjoying the drama serial as a whole. But I do wish that with every Ashar-Khirad scene, we do not end up feeling that there is something missing. I do feel like punching Sarah though and that just proves what a great job Navin Waqar has done.

After seeing the precap, I am really, really looking forward to next week’s episode.
