Humsafar’s story progressed quite a bit in the 8th episode as Baseerat Hussain passed away, the family went through a period of mourning, Khirad got admission to (what seems to be) Szabist for further studies, and Sarah’s cousin, Khizr, turned out to be a classmate of Khirad in university. The story will now take a turn as Khirad and Ashar’s love will be severely tested by those around them who want to separate them – and that includes almost everyone.
This episode was directly fairly decently, with the director himself making a brief appearance as Dr. Idress, Khirad’s teacher. Again, all the scenes from the novel were depicted beautifully in the right sequence, and the entire cast, as usual, did a great job.
On the flip side, maybe it’s just me, but somehow the scenes seemed to be ending quite abruptly. This included the scene where Ashar comes home late and wakes up Khirad, as well as the scene where he takes away her books and she tries to snatch them back. What is happening? Either the editing team has messed up here OR the director simply wants to make it seem as if the next thing that happened has been censored – which is really strange because the effect it has is that the characters did something unsuitable and the scene was cut by the censor board. No kidding.
Someone remarked on YouTube that Sarah’s entire family seems twisted – Sarah was/is after the husband and now, her cousin, Khizr is after the wife. This is an interesting scenario, which will develop over the weeks as the serial progresses. For now, I think I will just go back and watch the books-snatching scene again.
