Ah, now this is what I call a romantic, light-hearted episode. Today’s episode of Humsafar was truly one during which one would smile at Ashar-Khirad scenes and smirk at Ashar-Sarah scenes; one would go ‘Awwww’ at the former and ‘serves her right’ at the latter.

All my favourite scenes from the novel were present in today’s episode – it was lovely to note that all the excellent dialogues of Ashar and Khirad were retained in the drama serial without ANY editing. I loved the part where Ashar told Khirad she need not compare herself to any of the so-called modern ones.

This drama serial is by far the most popular one these days, and one can easily owe it to the excellent script. It is definitely not the story because the story has been done to death – the dialogues and the excellent acting/direction are something that makes at least me want to watch the episodes over and over again. Hats off to Farhat Ishtiaq in particular and the production team in general.

I do wish though that someone else – a more seasoned actress – was playing the role of Khirad because even though Mahira has put in a lot of effort, at times, you feel really let down because in front of Fawwad Khan’s excellent acting, it does seem inadequate. I would have loved to see someone like Humaima or Sanam Baloch play Khirad.

In any case, today’s episode was excellent. The conflict and the ”real story’ will begin from next week, with Khizr’s entry. I can’t say I am looking forward to that particular part, but I am definitely waiting for Hareem to make her entry.
