I am bowled over. Today’s episode of Humsafar was so emotional I almost burst into tears. Yeah, so we were all expecting it to be a moving episode but I guess anything with kids in it always tends to go straight to at least my heart.
Anyway, so Khirad finally went to Ashar to ask him to fund Hareem’s operation. We got a glimpse of Sarah Kashif, who is playing Hareem. In flashbacks, we find out the summary of all that happened to Khirad and Hareem in the four and half years. The episode ended on a very suspense-filled note. I for one cannot wait to see Hareem-Ashar interactions that were written so beautifully in the novel by Farhat Ishtiaq.
I was very relieved that the story picked up pace in this episode and the director did not dwell too much into how Hareem’s illness was diagnosed, and the tests, and blah! It cut straight to the point, with the flashbacks aptly informing us, the viewers, everything we needed to know in a nutshell.
Fawad Khan remained his flawless self in terms of acting, especially in the last scene where he emphatically said, “I hate you” to Khirad. Mahira at some points did seem a bit flat. The scene in Ashar’s office could have been done better, though the flashback one and the one where is talking to Afsheen about her last hope gone down the drain were much, much better. You could actually feel the pain emanating from her and that was definitely a strong point in her favour.
Overall, an excellent episode. And though no one strangely mentioned her name on Jago Pakistani Jago, hats off to Farhat Ishtiaq for adapting her novel so beautifully for the screen. I am definitely looking forward to next week now.
