Top ten high-chemistry on-screen couples

Since I have been harping quite a bit about the lack of chemistry in certain on-screen couples, I decided to write a post and point out at least five of them who shared excellent chemistry on screen. Now, when I say ‘chemistry’, I basically mean any or all of the following:

a) Acting skills: The couple in question has flawless acting skills and spot on expressions – they really become the role they are playing.

b) Emotional appeal: The audience is absolutely hooked to their scenes, and really wants them to be together. In other words, you actually “feel” for the couple – such is the intensity emanating from their acting.

c) The wow factor: They can make you go ‘awwww’ without any physical intimacy whatsoever! You smile as you watch their interaction! (In other words, they don’t NEED any silly rain scenes to make a point!)

So, who fits the bill? Before I proceed, let me clarify this list will NOT have obvious on-screen couples who shared great chemistry, for instance, Hasan and Bano, or even Ashar and Khirad. The idea is to point out the ones you might have missed. So here goes, in no particular order:

Aisha Khan and Humayun Saeed in Mehendi

In my opinion, AK and HS have always shared great chemistry, regardless of which drama serial it is. In Mehendi, they both rocked as Sajal and Shahzeb.

Fahd Mustafa and Mehreen Raheel in Mastana Mahi

A fresh on-screen couple, Adal and Aleen were my absolute favourite! I am not a very big fan of Mehreen Raheel but her get-up was much better here.

Aisha Khan and Faisal Qureshi in Manay Na Yeh Dil

Roshni and Shehryaar were a very cute couple – but in the end, I was glad they did not end up together.

Hiba Ali and Faisal Shah in Dil Diya Dehleez

Oh boy, I remember this drama serial from my university days. Although both are lacking in acting skills, I still thought they made a great couple.

Sami Khan and Ayeza Khan in Shadi Mubarak/Kaala Jadu

Not many will agree with me, but this on-screen couple is slowly growing on me. The danger is A&B Productions will over-use them and totally destroy the novelty.

Tooba Siddiqui and Mikaal Zulfiqar in Dil Hai Chota Sa

Again, acting skills were lacking, especially in Mikaal. However, Kuku and Ammar kept me hooked to this drama till the very end.

Sonia Rehman and Humayun Saeed in Doraha

Man, I can still go ‘awwwwwwwwwww’ at the OST. Yes, Sarah and Umar gave me plenty to smile about (and scowl) as they got together, separated, and then reunited.

Sunita Marshall and Faisal Qureshi in Mera Saaein

A couple who could never get along, they finally did fall in love. Sigh, but their union was not to be!

Maira Khan and Hasan Niazi in Mukamila aur Mahira

This drama serial was part of my research back in university and I LOVED this couple.

Sarah Chaudry and Sami Khan in Terey Pehlu Main

In the beginning, when TPM was actually interesting to watch, I loved Aashir and Laiba. I stopped watching after they got married. Enough said!

PS: Sorry for the image – it’s the only one I found. Ironically, even though the drama’s name was Chemistry, I found very little between the lead couple!
