And the torture continues…no, not for GER but for the viewers. If you want to discuss the story’s progress, then yes this episode did take the story forward as GER and Adeel got married…both Nikkah and Rukhsatti. GER’s cousin Aalia is also getting married ( Aashir’s sister ) and yes, the rewaitti ” tensions ” that the viewers were expecting to see in such scenario were also created ” forcefully “.
So let’s start. As expected GER was forced into Nikkah at gun point, as if we don’t already have enough dramas glamorizing abuse, kidnapping, forced marriages…GER has also joined the bandwagon. The rich, abusive, jerk who happens to be the hero kidnapped the girl who dared to reject him and forced her into signing the nikkah documents. First of all, I am not even sure if such marriages are legit, secondly GER who is the champion of women’s rights and human rights, who is advising her cousin to fight for her rights, does not take a stand for herself. She simply refuses to fight back. Ok, let’s give her benefit of doubt…when she came home after nikkah, she was emotionally shattered and not mentally prepared to talk to anyone or answer any questions but when she finally did talk, she decided to confide in the servant ? What was she thinking ? She didn’t talk to her mother even when Adeel lied about both of them being in love, her mother repeatedly asked her but GER decided to stay quiet and pretend to be a martyr.
Kamal Ahmed also asked her if she was OK with marrying Adeel and once again, she decided to be the achi bachhi and say yes. What message are they sending through this ? If girl says no, kidnap her, force her into nikkah since she is a very decent person with good morals so she will accept that nikkah and stay loyal to the kidnapper and eventually she will make her peace with it ? The kidnapper will eventually get what he wants, will be forgiven and both of them will live happily ever after ? He is forcing himself in her life, not showing any respect for her boundaries, this woman is being treated like a piece of land or property…yet, she is accepting it ? I am sorry if at this point I don’t feel sorry for her at all. She was given more than one chance to speak up but she choose to stay quiet.
Even at this point, Team GER could have made a little sense out of this weird, cliched situation … GER could have talked to her mother, maybe she could have contacted a Mufti to find out if that sort of nikkah is Jaiz or not ? It would certainly shed some light on such issues but no, they have decided to work for TRPs and nothing more.
At one point GER decided to act as ” ghar Ki barri bhurri ” and she went to her Taya and suggested that Maria and Adeel should be married but she would not talk to him directly. So, what was she thinking when without any reason, out of the blue she just went to him to talk on his son’s behalf ? The writer and director are coming up with scenarios to fill up the episode, scenarios that make no sense.
The scenes between Adeel and GER revolved around ” Adeel grabbing hold of her arm repeatedly ” and both of them finding one reason or another to argue about. At these times GER is never at a loss for words, wonder why she didn’t try to use her words when she could have talked to her elders to explain her situation.
Adeel is trying to portray himself as normal, a guy who is willing to change if his marriage works out but at the same time he is making it clear…he might want something really bad but once he gets it, he loses interest in it. So GER shouldn’t keep her hopes high. Like I said, this character has got noting that you would wish to see in a positive character, let alone the hero. Characters like this one were shown as villains uptill a few years ago and people hated them for this kind of thinking and attitude but now, sadly these very characters are shown as the heroes.
As if things weren’t bad enough, this episode gave more than enough time to GER’s Khala’s family. The annoying khaloo got a lot of screen time and watching this character in one scene alone and having to listen to his highly irritating voice is painful enough, so having to watch him again and again was unbearable. What is the purpose this character is serving ? The ” twist ” of Alia’s forced marriage was forced upon the viewers and it just added to our misery. The tension in their house failed to win sympathies, it was just annoying.
Coming back to the lead couple…finally they got married, while Adeel is still not willing to dump Maria. The promos show GER’s mental torture continues and the situation is gonna get uglier. I donot have any hopes of seeing GER Turning into an independent woman/ a survivor…by the look of things, the writer is gonna come up with more ” bizarre twists ” to convince us that deep down Adeel is a good guy and he does have some redeeming factors due to which he and GER will end up living ” happily ever after “. Honestly I am hoping Adeel gets hit by a truck, this character has failed to impress so far.
