First things first, the most important lesson from this week’s episode : If there is a Conga line, you have to join.
After all, who doesn’t want to join a Conga line? Though Ms. Uptight my-morals-are-in-a-twist Mohini might not want to. I get her middle class morality and indignation at Omar being in the ‘charssi’s’ house and her annoyance at taking his interview so lightly but if youth isn’t a time for experimenting and making mistakes what is? Talk about a buzz kill.
Anyhow, this was a fun episode and the sole person responsible for that was the high as a kite performance (?) by Adnan – Gohar Rasheed. His fried, blitzed and blissed out stoner was completely -pardon the pun-on joint.
He has the goodhearted, slow witted, joints and jobs at his fingertips laid back cool of the rich and privileged. His slow-mo conversation with Asma was hilarious. Now imagine, if our holiday-rehab telling the whole town and then some Zara had given us that performance – it would have immediately made her addiction a tad believable.
As for the narrative, it continues apace. Jr. Hashmi leaves home and hearth with his dream of wearing a smirk on his face, is learning the far reaching consequences of annoying his father, though the job interview bit – heck OKB has a history of missed job interviews. While Asma is chugging along with wedding plans, Omar is trying to get his bearings.
Sr. Hashmi still thinks that Omar can be guided back home through hook or crook. Ziddein todna bahut aata hai as he says. He’s brushing this off as a rebellious phase despite his wife’s reading of the situation. Loved the little nods to the impatience and optimism of youth with Mohini believing that everything will be fine, and soon. Great performances all round today.
Also points for apt T-shirt placement, Mrs Imtiaz’s wonderful sari wardrobe (I spot dhakai and Poona saris in the mix) and the Jackie Chan movie in the background though Cheech and Chong would have been more apt no?

PS – Ok so I lied. Sadaf will be back but not quite so soon. Till then, like it or lump it, you are stuck with me. Happy holidays folks!
