Another strong episode from this writer director duo and I am almost allowing myself to believe this serial is going to be consistently good, the kind of serial we want to watch again and again.
First paragraph Mohini kay naam. It is so refreshing to see a girl like Mohini on screen. She may not be as wealthy as Prince Omer Hashmi but she basically has the same value system. Both are kind and caring and though Omer is definitely the more protected one, there is a touch of naïveté to them both. I agree with you Zara they do make a great couple. That proposal from hell was just right coming from Omer , sans the moonlight or roses which are pulled out from the trite box of clichés most dramas keep in a handy corner for such occasions ; just Omer snapping out the truth to both his and Mohini’s surprise. This was one of those surprises which shouldn’t have been. Mohini is an independent, working girl but she has values and limits not because society has forced them on her but because she is intelligent enough to understand their intrinsic importance. She is worried about her mother, she knows how Omer’s family will react and she doesn’t suddenly profess true love either. When Omer’s mother visits with a not so subtle warning she reacts with quite sensibly.
As in all the best dramas the writer Mohamad Ahmed Saheb has given us some fabulous female characters. Mrs. Hashmi looks gorgeous, but it is the definition in her character that really catches my eye. She isn’t the wicked stepmother at all but neither is she that fond of Hashmi Jr to take any risks for him. Her loyalties lie firmly with her husband and maintaining the status quo. Tara Mahmood impresses again in this nuanced role. Last week, I wasn’t too impressed with Farah Shah but I think she has made me happier this week. I love the lack of bitterness in her character, she has no complaints about men, her electric bill or how her life is ruined becuase her husband died. She obviously had a happy, loving relationship with Mohini’s father and like all women who have seen the best of married life cannot imagine anything better than a good husband for her daughter. Nomi or Omer , it really doesn’t matter .
Now we come to Zara who has the goodness to actually admit to being an addict , she must be a pretty High functioning addict to look this fresh but it happens. What I like is the fact that drug addiction is quite rightly reviled but is also treated as the disease it is rather than a moral failing one should be slapped out of .
I think it may well be now my next goal in life to go to a party with Gohar Rasheed. Of course I am not cool enough, I shall probably have to stand in a corner and pretend to be the cleaning lady but at least I will be present. Now this is what you call entry marna, I am sure if this was on the big screen there would screams and shouts galore. What a beach party full of cool, good looking people. Furqan has so improved since he was evil Abdullah in Marasim, so much better as Omar’s wisecracking friend with the moo boli girlfriend. Nomi looks kind of sweet as he fails to summon up the courage to tell Mohini how much he actually loves her.
Osman and Sana were the best parts of the show. Their scenes together are the best, such perfect chemistry. Omar acting like a spoiled brat with his ice cool step mother was a bad move. Now would be a good time to build alliances but he is like most protected children very headstrong when he gets the chance. Osman is perfect as Omar Hashmi, sometimes he is rude and entitled but at other times he seems very young and vulnerable. Despite his declarations he is still not sure about marrying Mohini till half way through the episode, not until Zara gives him the option does he have the courage to form a resolution. I loved the final scene of Omar and Mohini walking down the beach Osman and Mohini’s expressions, the lighting the background, everything was just right.
Great job team Goya , now please don’t mess it up that is all.
