Goya Episode 20 Review

Goya 31

After today’s episode I just want to say “aisee maohabat sey hum baaz aay”. The will to live is strong in human beings, it’s our most basic of instincts and the way Mohini is literally pining away for a life she might have had seems unreal. However add clinical depression to the mix and then maybe, just maybe, yes. Mohini is angry not at Senior Hashmi but Omar and it is his second marriage that she really cannot forgive. I almost feel as if she is hurting herself to hurt him. Depending on the stage and nature of the cancer a person is suffering from, it is not the death sentence it used to be. If Mohini gets to see an actual oncologist she might get well. I have never really understood mothers like Asma; she doesn’t need her daughter’s permission for everything, for that matter neither does Omar. There is a strange inertia over this episode that was at times heart rending but also frustrating.

I could barely stand the Rahat Hashmi and Zaib scenes of which sadly there were way too many. So Rahat Hashmi is getting his psychological comeuppance now? Really? Other people get cancer and his difficulty is that he is lonely? I am trying so hard not to hate Zara but it’s not working. Hira Tareen has done a great job with Zara making her a lot more palatable but this self-absorbed character is really hard to like at this point. I think she will spend the rest of her life blackmailing Omar into things because otherwise she will go back to taking drugs. Part of rehabilitation is learning to take responsibility which she hasn’t learnt. No, it is not her parent’s fault she took drugs, even if they are dreadful human beings, it’s hers. I am definitely with Ali on this one. I think  (Ali)Furqan Qureshi was wasted in this drama , he is actually a good actor and I think his character should have been more on screen than annoying Nomi and even more annoying Zaib.

I was hoping Omar would just divorce Zara there and then and get it over with since this marriage seems to mean nothing to him , but being the weak person he is he feels guilty at every threat Zara makes. So neither here nor there, trying to keep everyone happy but never succeeding, Omar lands on Mohini’s doorstep. Dying of cancer and heartbroken, Mohini still seemed the stronger person .Brilliant acting by Osman Khalid Butt and Sana Javaid is making this whole thing watchable. Again both of them were subtle and underplayed with great effect. Overall this episode was a bit of a mixed bag , I think Rahat Hashmi and Zaib were a drag but Zara Omar Mohini and ali kept it interesting. It really is sad  to see this drama lose that wonderful young , fresh air it had and become so serious but c’est la vie I guess.
