I was so hoping the promos for this episode were lying to me, but sadly its true, Goya has now officially got a ‘dusri Bivi’ and despite OKB’s good looks ,Omar Hashmi is a toad of the first water. We are supposed to believe, Zara needed Omar’s help to stay off drugs and escape her parents and somehow marriage was the only option?
Marriage is a serious commitment involving physical and emotional intimacy not a beach party you casually invite a few friends to, and if Omar is meant to be Zara’s support why does he seem to avoid her? For me at least this whole second marriage thing is ridiculous. Omar’s ahem… ‘agreement’ with Zara that their marriage is an arrangement of convenience looks to be to be crumbling fast as she tries to manipulate him into moving to Turkey and is becoming more and more possessive. I hope Zara is not going to deteriorate into some kind of villain because Omar Hashmi was an equal part in this stupid decision, no one held a gun to his head as far as I know. Bitterness and anger can push people to do a lot of things and in our dramas it’s always a second marriage. Mohammad Ahmed Saheb is one of our most intelligent and creative writers so this turn is even harder to understand. I am sick and tired of this trope being played out again and again on our screens. It’s as if marriage, commitment and emotional intimacy are meaningless and can be forged at will.
Paradoxically this was a much better episode, with shorter scenes and a fast moving story line. Osman Khalid Butt and Sana Javaid were the highlights this week. They have such a great connection, even when they don’t share screen space. I stand by my classification of Omar as a complete toad for marrying Zara but his character is maturing and Osman played him with excellent restraint, saving the whole thing from dropping into soap opera territory. Similarly Mohini is depressed but Sana Javaid’s light touch shows her misery with touches of desperate black humour and quiet disappointment.
I wonder what these two will say to each other once they finally meet. Omar is right to be fearful, his second marriage is not something the old Mohini would forgive but this broken, shadow that she has become needs him so much that it will forgive him. Despite her inertia, it is obvious Mohini wants to be found .Similarly Omar is never going to be happy till he finds her, his marriage to Zara holds about as much meaning for him as buying a new suite.
Ok back to being annoyed; who on earth is this Zaib un Nisa character? I mean who allows a housekeeper who has just started working with a family to become so familiar and blunt to the point of rudeness? Her character arc is hard to believe. I became a fan of director Faiz and Mohamad Ahmed Saheb after watching Dareecha, which was a many layered, beautifully subtle piece of work. Though it had a promising start, Goya has none of that mystery, that thrilling air of suspense is just not there anymore.
Meanwhile, Rahat Hashmi has been stirring up Zara’s insecurities and threatening his wife into an abortion. Amazingly enough, people still trust him. Zara should know better but she has become his ally and is even siding with him against Haniya. Well Rahat Hashmi certainly seems to be winning and achieving all his goals but for how long ? I have a feeling Zubari Saheb (Waqas Khan) maybe the one to thwart Rahat Hashmi’s wishes and finally get Mohini and Omar together .The sooner the better as far as I am concerned
P.s Thank God for small mercies …. No Nomi this entire episode.
