First of all my apologies for being missing in action for two weeks in which much of the universe managed to conspire against me writing a review for four episodes. So , Omar has recovered from the minor injuries he received from the accident and is walking normally . Now that seems to be the only normal thing about Omar, who has inexplicably started to believe his father’s nasty little suggestions that Mohini abandoned him as life became difficult. Omar knows his father “the undertaker” well enough yet he is allowing himself to be manipulated a little too easily. Of course Mohini not taking his Omar’s calls or explaining anything is not helping matters. Mohini’s silence and Omar’s lack of trust seem inauthentic to their characters and it weakens the storyline. I could still let it go under the heading “plot device” or even put it down to the usual lack of trust and understanding newlyweds sometimes have but Omar’s decision to marry Zara is mind boggling .
Zara and Omar are thoroughly modern, strong willed, critical thinkers; who are very far from being slaves to convention. Hira Tareen was absolutely fabulous as the shaking Zara, trying to quite her drug habit while remembering Adnan. I can understand that she is leaning on Omar for support and in turn he finds her his only ally with Mohini gone and no other friend in site but marriage is a big leap in a short space of time. When Ali turns up from his Dubai trip ,the whole “we are getting married “ thing looks even more ridiculous. Omar is not serious at all and Ali is treating the whole thing with a degree of good humour that makes me suspect that he must know something I don’t. Omar is acting like a spoilt child and I wonder why his character has not grown or matured from such serious and painful events?
Meanwhile Mrs Hashmi is trying to get away from Rahat Hashmi herself because she is pregnant and she knows her husband will demand an abortion. When she finally asks for Omar’s help there is such a perfect flash of triumph on Omar’s face : here is the perfect revenge. Osman has done a good job with Man child Omar Hashmi but I now hope Osman will choose very different roles to this. Mixed into all of this turmoil is our mysterious Bengali beauty Zaib un Nisa, who seems to hate Rahat Hashmi yet spies for him. She betrays Mrs. Hashmi as she tries to escape then tells her off for not appreciating her good fortune.
Now that we are all caught up can someone explain what is going on with this wedding? Did Omar and Zara actually tie the knot? Nomi brought Mohini a wedding invite and when Mohini finally tried to contact Omar (at the actual reception venue …not a smart move) she was told by senior Hashmi she had the wrong date and the wedding vows had already been exchanged. It looked like a setup to me. Sana Javaid has been simply perfect, poor Mohini; she really has suffered the most.
Nomi is simply a complete jerk; if that was the aim then Asad Siddiqui is winning. He suddenly turns up to show Mohini the wedding invitation even persuades Sharfu Nana not to contact Omar and then tries to hit on Mohini. Either he is an opportunist or actually working for Rahat Hashmi, in the end the result is the same. After losing some of its steam in a couple of episodes, Goya has got it’s groove back this week. There was more than enough suspence and and mystery in the air this week to keep anyone intrigued. I hope team Goya can keep it up. When it started Goya promised to be a fresh of breath air allowing us all breathing space from the usual ..tera / mera sasural/nikka/Haqmehar stories we are forced to see dancing across our screens. However, if this whole Omar /Zara marriage happens it can hardly claim to be any different.
ps Smart move on team Goya’s Part to keep Adnan (Gohar Rasheed) in the mix .
