After last week’s major plot twist revealing the true colours of Tajammul and Zohra, I was hoping for Faara to have a showdown with Roohi. Faara’s inner turmoil mixed with her guilt over disappointing her mother holds her back from fully expressing herself. She started off pointing the obvious- how much money is needed to sustain a household of two members? Zohra has successfully manipulated Roohi into a puppet who spends lavishly and has no shame accepting gifts from Agha Jaan that are meant for Faara. Zohra has definitely taken beghairati to a whole new level. Roohi is a miserable woman and I find it hard to empathize with her seeing her lack of affection towards her only daughter. She seems to enjoy spending time and playing Phuppo to her niece and nephews but she can’t find a word of compassion for her daughter who tries ever so hard to please her.
Roohi succeeded in restricting Faara from meeting Agha Jaan. She has gotten comfortable with the flow of funds from her wealthy in-laws but wants nothing to do with them. Agha Jaan’s patience is commendable. He blames himself for Roohi’s attitude and cautions Wali to give them the benefit of doubt. Wali’s meeting with Faara reminded me of the early days of Sohaib and Arjumand. Sohaib won Arjumand over with his perseverance and innate qualities ( and let’s not forget his good looks!). Faara is sadly a reflection of her mother and it pains me to see how she’s being exploited into forming an opinion and acting upon it. No matter how sincere Wali may be, she is repulsed by his presence and hates being reminded of her Nikah. Osman Khalid Butt is at his best as Wali- every facial twitch, every gulp, every breath he takes makes his character come alive. I can’t wait for him to confront Moeez and set him straight. I chuckled when Moeez was trying to act macho like he could take on the jageedar ka beta! That’s going to be quite some fight!
So this episode showed a lapse of time of 3 years. Agha Jaan continues to stand by Faara in both her good and bad times even though he has maintained his distance at Roohi’s request. Instead of consolidating her relationship with her daughter, Roohi continues building walls around her, further isolating Faara. Hearing that she isn’t keeping well, he rushed to see his precious granddaughter but this time around he was accompanied by Arjumand. Roohi tried to deliver a blow in her usual below-the-belt fashion but I was ecstatic to hear Arjumand’s response. How petty of Roohi to rub a bachpan ki mangni reference to her sister-in-law and current samdhan! Every time I think Roohi couldn’t possibly stoop any lower, she surprises me with her choti zehniyat. Agha Jaan’s words are haunting me now- Roohi and her aalaa khaandaan have certainly lived up to their reputation! It comes as no surprise that Moeez is relentlessly chasing Faara given his upbringing. He finds nothing wrong pursuing his married cousin and has issues with Wali treating Faara like his milkiyat! Roohi is all set to get Faara divorced from Wali and even though I can understand why she would think on those lines, at the very least, she should think long and hard about the repercussions of having her daughter file for divorce. This was her late husband’s aakhri khwaishh.
The contrast between Arjumand and Roohi was perfectly shown between their brief exchange. Despite being married to the man she loved , a man who gave up everything for her, Roohi continues to remain bitter and treats his family with disrespect. Arjumand had a rocky start to her marital life but lived a happy, blissful life with Sohaib which is why she was able to put aside her differences and agree to Wali and Faara’s Union. Arjumand showed Roohi the mirror by pointing out how she and Behroze deserved each other since they are both selfish to the core. The preview for the next episode showed Wali taking matters in his own hands. Please God, let there be a fist fight!
P.S. I’m covering for Sadaf this week and hopefully she’ll be back with her flawless reviews next week.
