Dhoop Kinaare: The Best Ever

Ok guys  i know many of you are frowning that i am going to spoil another classic with a below average review. But this  is not a review, this drama was the favourite TV show of my mother and this peace of writing is dedicated to her.

I still believe it is the best drama that we have ever seen on air from Pakistan television. If i set out to bring the one rationale for this declaration on board i can’t. There is no Particular thing  in this play which was special. The whole package was phenomenal. I have seen the guys from new generation love Humsafar, well i must say it will take Humsafar a long long time to reach the stature of Dhoop Kinaare.

The premise of Dhooop kinaare is fairly common and simple . A young idiotic and hilarious girl who falls in love with the person that is exactly opposite in character to her. Fate then binds them in strange ways when a house becomes a hey element of their story and their past drive them apart. Quite simple yet as some one said “simplicity executed with style is utter brilliance”. This play story line was just like a puzzle where every peace just perfectly settled in place.

Casting was perhaps the real X factor. Rahat Kazmi really embodied his character of a cool, calm, composed doctor who is very sound professional while Marina really worked wonders as a role which was almost similar to “tanhaiyaan” but she gob-smacked us with her performance. I think marina in Dhoop kinaare was one of the best  characters of  Hasina Moin, the laughing  and jiggling girl with a heart, I think marina deserves to be called the most loveable lead ever put to Pakistani screen. Sajid Hassan delivered a memorable supporting performance. His comic timing was matchless and the tinge of humour he brought always diffused the seriousness of situation. Badar Khalil chipped in with another genuine and solid acting effort. Arshad mehmood was I think the unsung hero the way he played a role almost twice his age contributed a lot to the success of the show.

Sahira was perhaps one of the best actress turned directress in our industry and she certainly cemented her place with this serial. The cinematography was exquisite and considering that this was an in-studio Multi- Camera shoot takes it way ahead and above all the dramas being produced now a days. The art direction and set designing was again like clock work. The most critical thing in Hasina’s plays is the ambience. They just absorb you and i think the whole team behind the camera done marvellously to create that ambience in front of camera.

Another huge contributor towards the ambience were the back ground soundtracks. The voice of Nayyara Noor was truly spell binding. even after all these years when ever i listen “main tum se na poochon tum mujh se na kehna” the whole episode of marina being confused to express her emotion just comes in front of my eyes. the other track “hansi khanakti hui” has just become personification of marina’s character and all that was loveable in her character. It was perhaps one of the most romantic compositions and Nayyar immortalized this melody.

Some of you might find this article overwhelmingly full of praise but i think writing an unbiased review for such a legendary chunk of our history is almost impossible for anyone.

To Sum up. Dhoop Kinaare was one of the perfect representation of the golden generation of Pakistani Drama. The last of the brilliant products coming through the production line of PTV. It has been really saddening to see modern Pakistani dram drift away from the legacy of these shining works and take refuge in sensationalizing  stuff borrowed from the neighbouring country.  Our golden past still lies before us as an inspiration and a way to recreate on our screens some more of the magic that used to be characteristic of Pakistani TV Drama.
