First word: flawless , second word: entertainment . Dramas like DeD are such a pleasure to review, everyone from director to actor, from producer to the guy who put the picture of Agha Jaan’s graduation on the wall have done their job and done it well.
Roohi and Behroz are in love and there were a lot of cute scenes where I think Sanam and especially Mikaal looked amazing. Farhat Ishtiaq’s heroes are just that ……magical; they are always so fair-minded, so honourable and so caring that all a girl can do is wave a white flag in surrender. So far I really like Sanam Saeed in this softer much more approachable character. Roohi makes the classic young bride’s mistake of complaining to her new husband about his nearest and dearest but no matter how much Behroz loves her he is, like most men, unable to bear any criticism of his family. I felt really bad for Roohi and Behroz for losing their first child; the guilt and self-examination weigh heavy on the young couple struggling to survive. Roohi in particular is sure that they are cursed .At least she is able to make peace with her brother but the ending shot of Behroz replaying his father’s accusations will set the tone for the future. Personally, I am not so sure that Roohi and Behroz are such villains; their biggest mistake was the sudden and abrupt decision rather than their actual marriage.
Again I can only contrast their relationship with the marriage of sheer misery that Suhaib and Arjumand are now trapped in. Arjumand still has feelings for Behroz after all he was her fiancé for most her life, but I have a feeling she might have moved on if Suhaib had held out a hand of friendship or companionship. However Suhaib is really immature and cannot move beyond his own personal pain. I know Mikaal and Sanam are good actors, but Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman are like an unexpected gift. Their perfect chemistry and screen presence gives this serial just the sharp, tart edge it needs amidst the sweetness of romance and family ties.
It would be easy enough to blame Behroz and Roohi for this situation but I think Suhaib is now fully “part of the problem “rather than the solution. I felt for the poor guy bawling his eyes out over Behroz leaving but what he fails to see is that Arjumand is a living, breathing human being who is suffering too. I am not sure what Agha Jaan wanted when he asked Suhaib to give his wife her “asli Mukaam” and quite frankly I don’t care; Suhaib should have at least made friends with poor Arjumand before becoming intimate with her. Why not take time to get to know each other? Much as I admire Ali Rahman’s acting, I think I hate Suhaib. Suhaib is only interested in fulfilling his obligations by fulfilling his father’s commands, that doesn’t necessarily make him a good person.
Agha Jaan makes for such a benign villain, but villain he is .At least Tajamul, Roohi’s brother was able to bend and forgive his sister in her hour of need and it was nice to see Roohi’s bhabi is the one who insists they visit her in the hospital. Again these fabulous actors hardly need our praise but they are simply a pleasure to watch on screen.
Next week’s promo shows a very pregnant Arjumand who still hasn’t reconciled with her new life and a rather cold, withdrawn Suhaib telling her to control herself. What a sad indictment of family life, that despite their good intentions and sacrifice these two can find no peace.
Thank you to director Haseeb Hassan and Farhat Ishtiaq for this excellent serial and thank you to the producer, Momina Duraid who has spared no effort in making this serial work.
As viewers, we often forget the role of producers in making a drama. If something goes wrong it is very easy for us to blame the actors, the director or the writer but many quality serials fail to reach their potential by mismanagement of resources. There is a lack of professionalism which reaches down the chain of command. One of the reasons most people who live outside of Pakistani prefer HUM TV serials and now A Plus Serials is because they manage their resources well and invest in lighting, locations and styling their actors appropriately.
Looking forward to your feedback ..Am I the only one enjoying this serial ?
