Dayar e Dil continues on a roll, with one well-crafted episode after another. Yes, there is a filmy touch to it and its fast paced editing leaves little time for reflection but for writer Farhat Ishtiaq’s strong storytelling skills this works like a dream.
This episode was again a comparison of two marriages: Rohina and Behroz’s relationship based entirely on love against the odds juxtaposed against Arjumand and Behroz formal connection based entirely on respect and duty. Love is not enough, its money that make the world go round but then again all the money and is meaningless without that useless emotion. Behroz and Roohi are quite happy struggling in difficult circumstances while all the shopping in the world will not make up for a husband that ignores Arjumand. Suhaib has married Arjumand but she has no place in his heart or mind except as a duty fulfilled. Arjumand however seems to have woken up to the fact that she and Suhaib are linked for life and is trying to make some sort of relationship between them work.
Again the true villain in the story so far is Agha Jaan’s pride and arrogance, yet we cannot hate him; his loss, his pain wrings empathy from the most reluctant viewer. Another magnificent performance from Abid Ali whose Agha Jaan is the lynchpin of this serial. The bonds of family are beautifully illustrated throughout this serial. There is such love between father and sons that they can never be alone, they are always united in their hearts. I loved , loved Agha Jaan remembering his son’s childhood. Suhaib is drawing yet another picture of his father while Behroz tries to pull him away. This shows that Agha Jaan is aware of his younger son’s nature and even a little guilty. Behroz too dreams of his angry father and knows how much he must have hurt them.
Agha Jaan’s dream about his two sons might have been the highlight of this episode but for the ladies of this serial. Sanam Saeed and Hareem Faruq continue to impress episode after episode. Hareem Faruq’s wonderful underplaying has been a delight and allowed Arjumand to be so much more than the typical victim. Sanam Saeed and Abid Ali were the hands down highlight of this week. They say you can wound a person more with words than you can by cutting them with a knife and poor Roohi was cut a hundred times by Agha Jaan . His insults were like slaps across Roohi’s face and Sanam Saeed showed us with a rare, quiet eloquence. No need for drum rolls or action replays or slow-motion captures of every face in the room, Sanam’s body language showed it all. Father and son may have an emotional bank account of years of love between them to make up for any harsh words but Agha Jaan has no capital with Roohi, who will never forget the way she was insulted and rejected.
There was plenty of romance this week, with Sanam and Mikaal as newlyweds and their scene at the door was so cute. I am hoping Haseeb Hassan will allow the camera to play a little rather than the actors. Love makes fools of us all and a touch of mischief never hurts .Haseeb Hassan has done a fabulous job of capturing this intergenerational story and this serial is the highlight of the entire viewing week.
