Sorry for the late review , Low blood sugar and lack of sleep is a killer combination !! Finally, 17 episodes later we get to see Faraa and Wali interact with the story’s focus shifting to their relationship. Let’s hope it stays there, because the older generation has had its fair share of the lime light. By my calculations this is basically two serials in one though I think Farhat Ishtiaq has done a good job of blending the new with the old it would have been better if this serial had stuck with Faraa/Wali. Ok, no, I take it back …we would have missed Suhaib Khan , so maybe it was worth it ?

I had a revelation this week I actually felt sorry for poor old Moiz. Cue soft music and dim the lights: “meri baat rehi merey mann main kuch keh na saka uljhan main …” .The saddest part was that despite Moiz’s rather melodramatic declaration Faraa seemed a little unfazed. She obviously has a soft spot for him but I have feeling it’s more of a friend / brother attachment. The biggest ‘tell’ is the way she doesn’t bother to talk to him about her meeting with Wali or contact him while he was away. Perhaps now she knows how he feels she might develop feelings for him? It would be easy enough as he is her mother’s favourite and such a support in difficult times.

Roohi has decided to accept the money from her in laws despite her deep distrust and hatred of them. This week Sanam Saeed seemed a lot more controlled, apart from a small bout of lazmi angry shouting at people she gave Roohi some of the nuance needed .I can see Roohi’s point of view, her husband’s sudden death and her only daughter’s sudden forced marriage would frighten any woman . She has a right to the maintenance from her in laws, if not for herself but definitely for Faraa. The only thing is, I can see Faraa’s point too when she says that taking money from her father’s family will not help them break off the relationship with Wali. I understand Roohi’s is being practical but this pragmatism will bring Wali and Faraa into regular contact , especially as Agha Jaan is sending the money into a joint account for the young couple rather than in Roohi’s name . With Roohi sending all of Agha Jaan’s gifts for his granddaughter to her cousins and telling Faraa not to be cowed by Wali ,this episode looks like the beginning of a game of chess , with move and counter move to see who takes the Queen.

We finally got to see some closeness between Mother and Daughter but it was a bit strange because Sanam Saeed’s pretty, lineless face did not look old at all without the glasses. Maya Ali has done an outstanding job this episode; not pronounced baby voice, controlled acting and her dialogues were clear and well delivered. Faraa’s confrontation with her mother hit just the right note as did her conversation with Moiz.

Best scenes this week was Faraa and Wali in the car ride and the lunch from hell. Osman Khalid Butt and Maya Ali always look good together and sparks certainly flew between their respective characters. Wali is trying very hard to ignore Faraa’s barbs and challenges and win her over with humour and charm. There was a bit of a Freudian moment when Wali gets fed up of Faraa telling him he is nothing to her and asks her if she really wants him spell out their exact rishta? OKB and May Ali were fabulous; I am hoping just hoping this is where the focus stays. Still, I did feel for Wali he just doesn’t know what to make of Faraa and I think the poor guy is going to suffer for his ‘soft corner’. In the book, Wali has seen pictures of Faraa before meeting her and his father speaks of her as “Wali ki Dulhan” so he already has an interest in her whereas Faraa knows nothing about him except his stupid joke about being a feudal sort. One thing I noticed about Faraa is that despite being angry or afraid (unlike her mother) she at least manages to maintain her manners with Agha Jaan if not Wali. She , Moiz and the rest of the her family have built up a picture of Wali as Jahil , feudal sort who rides horses and shouts at his servants all day. Wali finds this amusing and doesn’t bother enlightening her … remind anybody of someone else lacking in ahem .. communication skills ..? ( Behroz)

Both Faraa and Wali are shown carrying on their studies: Faraa is going to Medical School while Wali is both working towards his BA and keeping an eye on the family business. It’s a lot of responsibility for a young man   but being a Farhat Ishtiaq hero he is blessed with intelligence as well as good looks, so he is coping .I just loved Wali in the suite but sorry the lilac tie was a bit much, the college look was the best.  It made me wish someone would write a story about college life or at least one connected to it, but I digress. Wali has a great burden thrust on him at a young age and doesn’t have to me to enjoy college life the way any normal young man would which seems rather sad and unfair . On top of it he seems to be saddled with a laraki (albeit cute) Dulhan and a Mother in law who has the attitude of Sergeant Major giving out drills. Poor guy is all I can say. OKB handled our angelic Wali really well, toning some of that supernatural goodness down a tad and putting on a charm offensive with the reluctant bride subtly enough to not seem threatening. In fact Moiz‘s rather passionate declaration seemed a little much in comparison, but hey, still waters run deep. I think Ahmed Zaib is doing good job acting wise, it’s just Moiz is well…… Moiz and keeps saying ‘Jajirdar ka bacha’ etc and acting possessive about a younger cousin that he should be protecting without ulterior motives. I may want to slap him soon (the character not the actor before the PC police come to tell me off).  Firstly. she has just lost her father and I wonder if Majnu Moiz would have said all this to Faraa if Behroz had been around ; secondly, she is married; all be it to someone she doesn’t like or know , but why confuse her more ?

Last thing  , there was another editing mess this episode as they abruptly cut Wali’s in front of the inevitable Apple computer screen . Surely they can do better ?
