Let’s get one thing straight: You haven’t watched anything so opulent, so magnificent like this in a long, long time on Pakistani TV screen. It’s not just body beautiful, but there’s soul as well. It requires courage, prowess, patience, aptitude, knowledge, passion and of course, loads of currency to attempt a Drama like Daastan. But more than anything else, it requires your firm belief in the subject, the belief to attempt a historical when historicals are considered an absolute no-no in the industry, the belief to make a mega cast drama serial in recent times.
Daastan talks about the pre partition era and the circumstances that led to creation of Pakistan. I was actually waiting for Daastan . Why? Because I love history, specially Islamic and pre Pakistani history. I adore Naseem hijazi and I have read all of his novels. (Shaheen remains my personal favorite).oh btw Daastan is an adaptation of Razia Butt’s novel…..
I have no shame to say that I wasn’t expecting such class, such larger than life sets and above all high quality cinematography from a Pakistani production house. I haven’t witnessed such camera work as well as sound effect before on Pakistani TV Screen, In all honesty Momina Duraid deserves an applaud on this one because Daastan is on the course of changing the whole Television viewing experience.
I think there couldn’t have been a much better time to have Daastan on aired because of the recent chaos our country is in. it’s such a shame that almost 60% of our younger generation don’t even give a rat a** to the creation of Pakistan. Some of us are even thinking if it was worth the creation .The timings couldn’t have been better. Okay I think I am getting emotional :) so what? I think our nation really needs to have a look at the past and realize what blessing we have in shape of Pakistan.
When you talk about history it’s really difficult to hold viewers attention and honestly I underestimated samira. I even said to myself, writing dramas like meri jaan, meri unsuni kahani, vasl would be easier. Samira ney chance to ley liya hai kahin leyney kay deynay na per jayeinJ but so far She has proved me wrong. The narration was just perfect, neither pace nor sluggish. The kind of star cast it has. Its bound take a while for the viewers to get used to the characters. The 1st episode was just introductory with the principle cast. And Thank God Hum TV has bought Fawad on TV!!! We are so bored with seeing the same old faces again and again; Fawad is fresh, has Khuda kay liye success riding on his back and has surely a charm working for him. I am surprised to see sanam baloch playing the role of bano( the main protagonist of the Serial) only time will tell if she will be able to carry the whole drama on her shoulders so it’s a wait and watch situation.
However something that I really want to praise would be Camera work. I was full of praises for the cameraperson, it would be unfair to talk about stars and writers/director and producers only. I actually waited to read the name of the cameraman at the end. Muzzafar Ahmed has done a great job. As well as furqan (sound).
It’s really too early to predict how Daastan will shape up however.1st episode looked good and promising especially the glimpse of next episode. But there is just one thing which was missing in the 1st episode, Dialogues!! A historic venture needs to have powerful dialogues however I think it’s too early to say anything. Let’s wait and watch and see what happens next. Daastan has surely taken a giant leap from the very 1st episode!!
