Throughout this episode I wanted to say, Hey Umaima, you do not have to take this. Your Mother in law’s sudden mood swings, Deeba’s silly mind games, even your father’s cold withdrawal can all be overcome with the right attitude. Your husband is happy with you and that should be enough .
Umaima is pregnant and worried that, if she does not produce a boy, she is going to spend her life under the same cloud her mother did. I had so hoped her character would know better than to take other people’s expectations as a test of her own worthiness. Murad has reassured her more than once during this episode that he is not obsessed with having a boy, but funnily enough she seems more worried about her Mother in law’s opinion than her husband’s. To a certain extent I can understand, Umaima is lacking in the self-confidence a loving parent can provide and she is a new bride , still a little unsure of her relationship with Murad.
Meanwhile Umaima’s father, Mr. Haseeb is still set against his daughter. He is someone I can find not a shred of empathy for. This man’s constant refusal to soften up or at least show some gratitude to God for the three healthy, normal children Allah has given him is wearing me down. I would so like too press the fast forward button but this drama is so engrossing I always forget. Deeba Baji is still wasting her time playing mind games. If anyone is in need of a good shake, it’s her. Maybe her mother needs one too, what does she do all day instead of supervising her grown daughter? These two really do not know the meaning of the word privacy .When Deeba entered the newlyweds bedroom unannounced I was hoping Umaima would give Deeba some of what she so richly deserves but Umaima seems incapable of standing up to anyone. Sana Askeri is doing just a great job in making Deeba so eminently hate able.
Over all this was a good episode and the story seems to be developing at a good speed. We are still left wondering about the Mushtaq and Noreen track .Is Mushtaq actually going to bring his mother to ask for Noreen’s hand or will he leave her hanging? What does an educated girl from a good family like Noreen see in Mushtaq is my biggest question? I guess there is no accounting for taste but I have the nasty feeling this is not going to work out in Umaima’s favor. The best character in this whole drama is Rehana, Murad’s elder sister. Despite her fears and sadness at being infertile she is never bitter and refuses to let her mother in law use it as a weapon against her. The best conversation in this week’s episode was when Rehana warns her Mother against pressurizing Umaima about a boy and reminds her to be grateful, when her own daughter is desperate to even have a child.
Meher Bano is one of the main reasons I watch. I normally despise Mazloom aurat types but she forces a skeptical person like me to stop and reconsider. That, combined with the pace of the story is carrying this serial along. All the tracks are seamlessly blended and not for a moment does one overpower the overall thread. This serial is so good, the difference between this and Ashk is staggering. Maybe it was an alien abduction or something but it looks like Ashk was directed by someone else. The story is so well written and every role characterized so realistically. If I have one complaint, it seems as if the alien abductors took Fahad sir away this episode too. Yes he was there in body but not in spirit, perhaps he will return next week?
