Deeba, Deeba, Deeba, Deeba…what a wonderful character you are. Allah has given you wealth, looks and a sense of confidence that Miss Universe would envy and yet you are not happy. This episode saw Umama reconciling with her father, who after just ten odd years, the death of his wife and a minor heart attack finally asks to see her. Again proving to be the world’s worst father ,I simply cannot stand his character. While Umama looks after her father, Deeba is given a few days alone with Murad. The change in Murad is subtle and extremely well done. There was a time when Murad would be annoyed at the very mention of Deeba’s name but now she seems to be an easy solution to his self-created problem of not having a son.
Deeba Baji has learned that it is easier to catch people with honey and has curbed her tongue .She is pleasant with Umama and sweet to Murad’s children. Constantly made up and constantly cooking while Umama does the donkey work, she suddenly seems like an integral part of the household. This was Fahad Mustapha and Sana Askeri’s episode and what a great job they did. Sana was a little over the top especially in her profession of love but considering Deeba Baji’s love of Indian dramas it might be excusable. The really interesting part was the way Fahad Mustapha allowed Murad’s character to subtly change without making us hate him. Like most human beings he reasons his way into the situation, after all his friend Faisal and his mother cannot be wrong, right? In the end the viewer realizes this was inevitable the moment Umama had another girl and he did not visit her in Hospital. It is Murad who wants this. All his superficial reasoning is the voice of his conscience because there is no way he could be the jerk in the picture? He does have qualms about two women in the same household but seeing Deeba Baji’s wonderful new personality thinks that all the cracks will be papered over. He is not suddenly overcome with any deep love for Deeba Baji but sees her as a convenient means to an end.
Next week we will probably see their marriage and despite the birth of the son we see in the promos I doubt either will be happy, life is simply not that easy. As to Umama this may well seem like the beginning of a new azmaish for her, but perhaps this will lead her to some gaining some strength and assertiveness. Umama looked impossibly young and pretty today when she got dressed up. How could You Murad, how could you? :) This was an interesting episode for me, apart from Mr Haseeb’s scenes.:well directed, well-acted, and narrative that moves forward without testing the viewer’s patience.
