Call me sucker for cheap thrills but I absolutely love the Aunty Brigade gossiping in their over-the-top fashions! Literally a case of people in glass houses. Word of advice Auntyjis: “Woh aap ko dikhanay kay liye nahi kar rahi barhaal jatanay kay liye zaroor kar sakti hai.“
Only last week did the games commence and suddenly we’re in the midst of deeper, darker secrets but before I get to that let me begin by confessing that I do like the increasing camaraderie (and I deliberately use the word) between Dania and Bunty. What do we have here? Dosti? Mohabbat? Dagah? I don’t know. But what I can definitely see is growing trust between the two.
We begin with Dania consoling Bunty, and as she does I couldn’t help but think that their relationship could work so well if they were just friends. Sastee mohabbat kay liye keemati aanson kyun is perhaps a question that Dania should pose to herself. As if that heartfelt moment in the car wasn’t enough we see boy wonder and his mistress share an intimate moment in a crowded party with all eyes on them.
From Bunty confessing to Dania that he thinks of her as 21-year-old belle of the ball to his firm decision of not falling in love again (array Bunty if only you’d decided to go to school or start a business), it is evident that these two people are starting to trust each other and partake in what trust brings to any relationship. As for Dania yet again we’re shown that she’s the one in control knowing very well what anyone and everyone wants from her be it Zain, Mirza, or Chauhan. Surprising then that Bunty is proving a challenge.
In another surprise Handsome Stranger aka Zain finally gets a word or two in! Now correct me if I’m wrong but a man zeroing in on a boy at a party on Saturday night, perhaps, my Toronto sensibilities take over therefore the less said the better! Although Azfar Rehman adds copious amounts of sizzle to Zain. That five-o-clock shadow, those sultry looks, the assured movements of a confident man, his sex appeal literally screams off the screen (a bit too much at times and perhaps a tad bit chichora).
Him and Bunty together was awkward to say the least, which as many of you have pointed out makes one wonder (as HS does too!) what does Dania really see in boy wonder?! But hey she knows something we don’t because like Patel before her, Dania hires Abdul Samad to spy on her boy.
Speaking of Patel, I kid you not, he makes this series what it is. The most profound, well-written, and articulate dialogues come from him. Moreover, his interaction with Dania is both believable and easily recognisable as one of maturity and understanding. Here is a man who’s not judging his wife for her actions, he’s not quick to sentence her to perpetual matrimonial hell (like Ali and Sham in Shuk), of course it helps that he’s dead, nor does he play the do-the-right-thing card on her. If not in life at least in death he’s letting her make her own mistakes, all the while gently giving her the right advice.
Mohabbat fitratan azaad hoti hai, hanji zaroor, lekin azaadi, I believe, is a state of mind. And at least for now no one is truly azaad. Dania is haunted by both Patel and Amir’s betrayal, a cycle she perpetuates for Bunty, Zain is a dark horse with his own “I know these women better than they know themselves” philosophy, and Bunty is at least for now at Lady D’s beck and call. So, who’s azaad again?
Finally, just when we thought we’d seen the last of that nighty, it’s back! Since we are talking about clothes, Bunty, Bunty, Bunty, what were you thinking with a velvet blazer in chocolate?! It’s like the male version of Vellore sweatpants. N.O. No! Perhaps, he’s trying to make a sundae – chocolate, mango – next up Banana? Haha!
Until next week, happy reading!
