Quelle surprise! Who knew Dania would give in so easily to young love? Double surprise at Bunty’s true confession, becahara saachi bahut masoom hai. As for Mehvish, no surprises there. The games, as they say, have begun though it remains to be seen whether the cat takes the baazi or the mouse.
After a rather eventful dinner at Mehvish’s, Dania madam and Bunty baba return to the Patel mansion. A rather tough night for our young protagonist, Bunty, has been double sided by both the women in his life. Mehvish’s not-so-subtle “Mohabbat nibhanay kay liye aur bahut sari cheezon ki zarurat parti hai woh kahan hai tumhara paas” to Dania’s “Pyar zyada ho to paisay zyada dainay padtay hai“, it is clear Bunty ki haseeyat fluctuates between a paltu and junglee kutta.
To see a dejected Bunty, as Dania knowingly speaks volumes through her eyes, was a bit sad. We’ve all been at point in our lives where we’ve experienced someone giving us the “I told you so look” and to come from a woman who’s ostensibly hired you as her mohabbat can’t be easy. Hai naseeb ki yeh inayatain indeed.
Until now I’ve been on the fence with the OST and background score but I found it worked pretty well in this episode. We often talk about locations and setting becoming characters in themselves and here, I think, the music functions in a similar manner. As Bunty cries, as Dania reminisces, and as Mehvish’s lays on the bed, the music (albeit a bit too loud at places!) hits all the right spots! Call me a sucker for dramatic OTT scenes but this sequence with Mehvish’s voiceover, Bunty’s tears, and Dania’s scheming was quite the highlight because we finally get to experience their weaknesses and unfulfilled desires.
In another surprise, this week we finally see Qutub talk. He has an opinion! And a sanjeeda, somber one too. More importantly someone (aka Qutub) finally caught on to the rather obvious dog metaphor. FINALLY! With Mehvish adding insult to injury by calling her boy wonder a galli ka kutta. Mission complete! Here’s hoping we can move past that reference now. (Side note: Those are some lucky dogs that have imported food from Holland, no less.)
In yet another twist, our old friend bewafai makes a comeback (yes, Shuk isn’t the only series she’s gracing with her presence these days!). After showing Bunty her ghatiya fiancé Dania challenges him to a live telecast of the same with Mehvish. True to her words our lady love bites the bait and abandons her mohabbat in a blink of a false eyelash. But now what?
Patel as always was the voice of reason. I think, as Dania imagine him, she is reminded of his mistakes and everything she can do differently but from what we’ve seen it’s the same pattern. Whatever happened to being zara hatkay, Mrs. Patel?
Some questions that have perplexed me, and I share them solely to add coherence to my own musings, are: Where are Mehvish’s parents? Agar rishtay ki baat ho rahi hai to at least Dubai say ek phone call hi karwa dain, director sahib. Where was Mehvish’s friend when we actually needed her? Sharp cookie that one as she’s the only one who sees through this thinly veiled game. Finally, why oh why is that scrunchie back?!
As of now, Dania’s made her point. Mehivish is off to Dubai. Bunty is heartbroken and alone. Par ab kya? I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again Dania is in this to win, but what’s the prize and what for?
Until next week I leave you with the breakout star of this episode, yes, you guessed it Mrs. Mirza. Now this is a wife in control!
