I confess, this episode was so much better than I expected it to be! No sooner had I gotten into the swing of things, HUM TV decided to slap me with next week’s promo. Oh well!
Toota hua dil ho, as the OST takes centre stage, Lady D and her boy, B, are having their first lovers tiff. When I first saw Bunty apologising to Dania, I couldn’t help but wonder why he needs to. He’s her pet, yes, but he’s entitled to some amount of privacy. Par kahani ka twist to abhi aana hai! Hurt or at least ostensibly shaken Miss D proposes inviting Mehvish for dinner (side note: have you noticed whenever Bunty and Dania are about to talk, the dogs happen to be barking?!).
This ill-fated but well-timed meeting is a sign of many turmoils to come. Previously I’ve mentioned Dania is a woman in control but momentarily (as we saw last week) we felt she was losing her grip: on Bunty, on his feelings and hers, and on Bunty’s Abba and his minions. It is now clear that it was all but momentary. The entire episode is built up to Mehvish and Dania finally coming amnay-samnay. It remind me in some ways of Chandramukhi and Paro’s meeting in Bhansali’s version of Devdas just a tad bit less colourful.
Speaking of colour, I love the fact that Saba Qamar is daring with her wardrobe but whoever came up with that scrunchie needs to be fired! Immediately! As much as I love the contrast of black and white for some reason Saba Q just couldn’t carry this look off, not because of any lack of confidence, but because of the costume designer’s blind eye. And while we’re at it get rid of those nighties. Jeez! Do we really need to see a stunning woman in those awful frilly lavender and orange numbers?!
Coming to Mehvish, the more I see of her, the more I don’t like her. In my opinion, she reminds Dania of Amir and perhaps Lady D is trying to get that across to boy wonder. What remains to be see is if she’ll buy Mehvish’s loyalty just like Patel bought Amir’s? The meeting between the two was a well shot sequence with reasonably good dialogues. Kudos to Saba Qamar for a restrained and balanced demeanour. As for Bunty’s Laila, the less said the better.
Another character that I want to bring up this week is Qutub. He seems to be always in the know and I’m thinking there’s more to him than meets the eye. Obviously Dania shares a lot with him (as we’ve seen over the past seven weeks) but how much does he know and what does he think?
The highlight of this episode was Patel! I simply love the flashbacks and Patel seems to be a grounding figure in Dania’s life. No matter what she does she always turns to him. I hope we see more of these fleeting yet revealing moments. Until then I leave you with Patel and Dania’s interlude:
Patel: “Aab kya karo gi? Woh ussay lay aaye ga aur tum dekhti rahe jao gi.”
Dania: “Mein hameeshan dekhti rahe jaati hoon ek baar phir sahi.”
