“Kehte hai agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho toh poori kayanat tumhein usse milane ki koshish mein lag jaati hai” yeh line sunni sunni hai naa :P acha listen to this then… “When you really want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true”. Don’t worry.. yeh “mind your language” ka show nahi hai :) na hi english 1301 ki class hai :) . And there won’t be any prizes to guess kay yeh line kis movie say li gai hai …. Yup it’s from the movie Om Shanti Om staring SRK. So am I reviewing an Indian movie?
Let’s pause here a bit and, Let me share a funny thing about myself, when I was young. Around 9-10 year old. I was very fond of reading. I remember my friendship with book started when I started reading those “8 annay” ki kahaniya of tarzan and Umar o Aiyaar.. Later I started reading Ishtiaq Ahmed’s jasoosi novel. And as I grew older I started reading Naseem Hijazi. I was so fond of reading that I could do anything in the world just to get hold of the latest novel from my favorite writer. I would even go to the weddings with a book in my hand and would find a corner where I can sit and read books.
However it changed with time. I got more and more busy and then there came a time when I had completely stopped reading. Per mein yeh sab app ko q bata raha hoon? :) I guess thora emotional hogaya. Per khair hai . I wasn’t very fond of English novels. Sometimes I used to feel a bit embraced when I had my friends telling me they love this novel that novel and all of them were angrezi :) . And then I came across “The Alchemist”
To call it just a book would be an understatement. There are books that are good, there are books that are excellent, there are books that are extra ordinary and then there is The Alchemist.
Review kay start mein I shared a dialogue of an Indian movie. Many of you would be surprised that it was copied from this book. The Alchemist is a story of a young boy Santiago who follows his heart and goes on a journey to fulfill his dream and along the way he discovers things that change his life. Normally the Alchemist could have been an ordinary book but the reason why I cherish it the most is because it is a life changing experience. The Alchemist motivates you. It gives you direction and moreover the courage to follow your heart.
I will share my personal Experience. I read this book somewhere in 2010. I had been working for a company for a while and had ready started my small business, many a times I had thought of quitting my job and focusing on my own business. However every time I would think that. I would start feeling scared .what if I could not succeed, what if I would lose this job and would not be able to find success in my business as well? There were lots of if but, and else, however at that point I experienced “The Alchemist” which completely shook me to the core. There is a line in a book that says” fear of Failure…. Leads to failure”. The moment I read this line, I had conquered my fear. I quitted my full time job and focused on my own business. 3 years now and I am happy, content and my business is flourishing. It’s not that I never faced any hurdles. However the moment I started losing faith I went back to “the Alchemist” and took a leaf out of this book which would never fail to give me hope courage and the faith to believe in myself.
The Alchemist is written by Paulo Coelho, who as written many books however this one is special. This one’s gives you hope, courage motivation and provokes your mind.
I am going to share some of the famous quotes of The Alchemist below and I am sure you must have come across some of them VIA face book or SMS :)
“One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
“Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
“I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living now.”
And this one is my favorite
“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”
The book has gone on to becoming an international bestseller has sold more than 65 million copies in more than 160 countries, becoming one of the best-selling books in history and winning the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author. More ever I would also recommend it to all of you even to those who feel a bit hesitant in reading English novels. Let me assure you that this book is written in very simple English. Jab meri samjh mein asakti hai tou phir sab ki samjh asakti hai :)
