And so Hum TV brings us another New York-based serial. My first thought when I saw the promos – please, please, please don’t be another failed venture into the lives of Pakistanis living in the US. The other failed ventures? ARY’s Kuch Pyar Ka Pagalpan and and Hum TV’s own Mataa-e-Jaan. Now don’t get me wrong, I love both these dramas. However, both fell short in my opinion when it came to the typical lifestyle of an American factor. In KPKP it was the strange, unrealistic portrayal of Daneez and Shimraiz’s characters, and in Mataa-e-Jaan it was the “our society doesn’t condone anything remotely desi” issue in the first episode. However, I have high hopes from Bilqees Kaur. Mostly because from the promos and the plot synopsis, it doesn’t seem like the fact that this family lives in America plays a very big role in the storyline. And honestly, that’s just how I want it to be. No social issues, no pros and cons of living in America, just a good family drama that just so happens to take place in New York.
Now I must say, I was a bit confused after seeing all the ads. There’s the comic promo involving Bushra Ansari in her hardcore Punjabi avatar, with introductions to the characters of Choti Bahu and Bari Bahu in it as well. Then there’s the promo of Bushra Ansari as the domineering, no nonsense mother. And finally, there’s the promo giving us some information into the lives of Ahsan Khan and Syra Yousuf’s characters. Overall, the genre of this drama looks like a mystery to me, and I can’t wait to find out where this story will lead!
P.S Maybe it’s the die-hard romantic in me but I’m already getting excited for Syra and Ahsan’s characters’ love story. The chemistry is definitely there, even in a 30 sec promo!
