Aah, yes!! Sorrow, anger, melancholy, jealousy, doubt, joy, laughter, and camaraderie, the whole gamut of human emotions was on full display today. We went from watching Anjuman getting married to Mumtaz almost on the verge of being thrown out of her house, from New York to Gujranwala, all in the span of about thirty seven minutes. Not a moment wasted, not a scene out of place – now this is what I call a happening episode!! Excellent job team BK!
The episode opened with Bilqees retrieving the files from the freezer; it was a relief to know they were intact and no water damage had occurred. Chalo good, at least now I can sleep in peace knowing all is well again. The Bhatti family shenanigans remain under cover for the moment, no one is going to jail for indulging in illegal activities. Waisey Billo Aunty, you really should either get these shady matters all sorted out or find a safer hiding place, before another blackmailer get their hands on these. High time, nahin?
Poor Bilqees, just as she thought that with the files in hand ke chalo ab tau mushkil waqt guzar gaya, yet another phone call from Mumtaz ensured that the poor woman’s tension level will remain high for another few episodes. Since Soha has already proven her mettle in solving family problems and resolving marital tension, Bilqees, who is clearly no one’s fool, selects Soha as the apt candidate for dispatching to Gujranwala to deal with Mr. mujhe-do-karor-chahiyen Zia. Of course, Soha being Soha, na aao dekha na tao, foran agrees to jump on the next plane to Lahore.
By now everybody knows my peeves with Sultan, but today, the poor guy was spared my wrath, as I was beyond annoyed with madam Soha. In some ways Sultan is very right, she does indeed love getting brownie points for her good deeds, but when it comes to her own life and choosing between fight or flight, she always ops for the easier option: flight. She did that even when her brother-in-law’s debased innuendos got to be too much. Instead of trying to make her sister aware of her husband’s philandering ways, she opted for an easier option: marry the conveniently available Sultan. Though at the time I had applauded her for not breaking up her sister’s marriage, but now that I see a pattern emerging, in her relationship with Sultan, I wonder whether she has ever consciously sat down to analyze her own personal relationships. It is very easy to fix up other people’s problems, but a whole different ball game when it comes to analyzing one’s own mistakes. We have yet to see her asking Sultan the reasons for his standoffish behavior towards her. Rather, she is acting like a typical housewife who starts doubting her husband’s affections the minute she learns of his earlier affairs. Don’t think Sultan ever told her he was a hermit before his marriage. So yes, Sultan is an idiot, but here Soha is a bigger one, in my opinion, because I thought she was the more rational one. Love how this couple gets me so worked up that it is hard to remember these are fictional characters!
With the story and Soha returning to Pakistan, we were re-introduced to the Farrukh and Sobia. Even after all this time, Sobia has not picked up anything remotely resembling housekeeping skills. My OCD self was getting highly agitated as I watched her taking a stab at cleaning her beyond messy house. Khair, I guess better late than never. Finally, she found the long-dead phone and at long last the metaphorical light bulb has gone off in her head and hopefully it will stay on long enough for to start connecting some dots, if not all.
Baqi, as for Mumtaz, I guess now that the fixer-upper Soha is here we will see more of her story and see how Soha goes about resolving this mess. I have to say, Zia is beyond badtameez and his family even more so, the aunty with overly made-up eyes was pretty scary as well. The whole family need to be sent to some kind of manners school where they can learn some tameez. Given how jaahil they are, methinks Soha is a bit out of her depth here. I think after he’s done soul searching, Sultan will get in touch with his inner man and come charging in just in time to save the day, saving Mumtaz’s marriage and wining Soha’s heart in the process.
Finally, before I sign off, can we just observe a moment of silence for the most non-happening, i.e., phus event of the decade? Yes, my friends, I’m talking about none other than Anjuman and Faraz’s wedding. After the whole hype surrounding the event, it was so anticlimactic ke poocho nahin. I realize that Mumtaz’s track had to take off so there was that, but still?! Surely after having waited almost an eternity the poor couple deserved a little more than this blink-n-miss wedding?
