Hello hello fellow bheegi palkein watchers!
My reviews have been delayed I know – life got in the way as it does , when drama watching and writing takes a back seat to everything else!
However I have returned with a vengeance and let us sit in our cosy corner and discuss all things to do with the various installments of this drama.
Episode 4 to 8 have seen poor Mehr Bano face one ‘museebaat’ after another. First every man on the planet seems to freeze at her sight. Is she a beautiful version of Medusa by any chance? The effect she has seems similar!
I was certain by the end of Episode 4 that Omar was going to die; how else would the dashing Hassan play a role in Mehr Bano’s life? Sadly this proved to be true when we lost the best person of the drama so far. Affan Waheed was able to portray Omar as the symbol of love, support and sincerity in Mehr Bano’s life. He had his weaknesses, particularly his inability to stand up to his mother and sister but you had to like him as his actions more than made up for it.
Remember my reference to Cinderella? In Episode 5 our very own Mehr Bano was kept away (like Cindrella) from the eligible prince Bilal who turned out to be a toad in reality. One request- could Ushna Shah refrain from the sing song way of talking? Look at how she speaks in Episode 5, particularly when Omar tells her to hurry up and get ready. One sentence seems to take about one minute! Khair moving on, our simple Mehr Bano falls into every trap set by the scheming Fareeha. While she faces those problems, Fareeha tries to hold the attention of her slimy fiance Bilal who in-turn wants to run away at the first opportunity.
In episode 6, the clash between Omar and Fareeha on the table over Bilal constantly praising Mehr Bano, was done to perfection by both actors. Another beautiful scene was when Omar gifted the phone to his wife- the very phone that cost him his life. Can someone please cast Affan Waheed in a lead role? He will do it with ease as he has the looks and acting abilities to pull it off. Trust me!
Thereafter things progress fast. Mehr Bano tries to be a dutiful and angelic daughter-in-law despite the tannas. Bilal disappears like a puff of smoke and Fareeha spits a lot more venom which poisons her mother against Mehr Bano.
But things get interesting in Episode 8. Hassan arrives at their house and sees Fareeha in her true colours as she misbehaves with his beloved mother. Then he sees Mehr Bano accidentally and another man is lost to the charms of our Medusa.
However I will not complain because I really want to see what happens next. Faysal Qureshi looks in good physical form and is particularly charming as Hassan. I commend his clothes designer as I couldn’t help notice that some of the outfit choices really suited him.
I enjoyed the scene of how Mehr bano and Hassan clapped eyes on each other- yes filmi but fun viewing nonetheless! Meanwhile, Fareeha tries to hold onto the ‘new and improved Hassan’ but her outburst at her sister-in-law in his presence certainly won’t help her cause.
Faryal Mehmood has toned down the makeup but continues to give a powerful performance each week as Fareeha. We miss Omar but Hassan is a good replacement! Mehr Bano is too good to be true but maybe Cinderella is the writer’s inspiration after all. Just like her, Mehr Bano is certainly not short on housework ! Lets see what next week brings..
