I wonder if after the pitfalls of the first episode the only way to go was up. I certainly thought that this episode was better than last week’s introductory episode.
The episode opened with a ‘rishta’ scene which quickly moved to a ‘jhat magni pat biya’ sequence of events. However the path of love does not run smoothly when you have the likes of Fariha in the groom’s family. From scowling through the mangni scene to making her official secret visit to Mehrbano’s house to provide some “well meaning advice” – Fariha gets full marks for trying everything to upset the apple cart. She is obviously a graduate of the same school of thought as Sara of ‘Humsafar’ fame- its either ” my way or the highway ” !
Anyway, not getting her way means all hell will break loose in the next few episodes. Therefore my advice – please be prepared to tuck your hands tightly under your armpits , as you stiffle the urge to deliver the much needed tight slaps in the next few weeks.
The episode still lacked a certain fluidity between scenes . I got the feeling of scenes being put together , rather than the story just connecting and flowing effortlessly. Certain scenes involving the family explaining things to Fariha felt repeated and unnecessary. Can anyone understand the point of that wallet throwing scene in Umer’s room? Was that scene or what followed really required to take the story forward? I think not.
Nor can a spoilt dame like Ayesha be so easily manipulated as she appears to be, by Fariha. And then Ayesha just turns up at the wedding, though her friend hid it from her? Very strange indeed!
However let’s end this review by focusing on the good – Faryal Mehmood’s makeup felt a bit more toned down. ( Either that or I’m sadly getting used to it!) . Ushna Shah was a lot better in this episode, acting wise. She could have acted better in the crying scene, but definitely an improvement from the wooden acting in the first episode.
Affan Waheed continues to do a convincing job of the patient and obedient older brother. He is the most likeable character of all. Too mild for his own good as we shall no doubt learn in due course. His restrained anger at his sister and his heartfelt explanation to Mehr Bano were two of the good scenes in this episode. Why Mehr Bano had to apologize though is anybody’s guess. A woman can be nice without being made into an angel, you know!
Good performance by both set of mums in this episode. Faryal Mehmood is convincing in her performance but the only problem is that her behaviour and anger feels a bit OTT ( over the top). I can’t understand it at all. Ayesha why don’t you adopt Fariha please? As your long lost sister maybe?
No Faysal Qureshi yet again (not even in the khandani shadi, bhaee haad hogae)! Things should get exciting (and complex) from the point of his arrival.
Keep watching . I will return with my version of the Bheegi Palkein Khagina next week :-)
